To Long Time QVC Shoppers Re: Free Shipping

Many of you have shopped QVC a lot longer than me. Is it unusual not to have free shipping during CIJ? Ever since I started shopping CIJ, there has been at least one, and sometimes two free shipping days. There are a few items I'd like to have in multiples, but with shipping, it's too expensive for me.

Yes, I would say that it is unusual. But these are unusual times.

I would say that QVC can not "afford" free shipping right now. Yes, their sales would go up. But, they would lose the shipping income. And, since orders are so slow to ship as it is, if they were slammed with orders on a free shipping day, the complaints about slow shipping multiply.

Or maybe I am way off base. I would like to read what other people think.

Why backlog an already backlogged system

I just figure in the cost of shipping into the cost of the item and either I buy it at that price or I don't but complaining about it here is not going to help.

Oh, QVC can "afford" to do a day of free shipping. Since COVID their sales are up 60-70%.

@SweetSydney In case you haven't noticed, these are not the good old days of yesteryear. QVC is struggling financially. They just laid off something like 850 people. Things are likely to be lean for a long time.

Thank you for replying. I agree these are unusual times. It makes sense that QVC can't afford free shipping.

I guess if they don't offer free shipping before CIJ is over, I'll have to bite the bullet and either pay the shipping or skip the purchases.

I've ordered several things, 2 that had free shipping, and several with $3.50 shipping.
I'll be curious to see what other people think, too.

@Miss Pepsi Please believe me when I say I'm not really complaining. Although, saying I can't afford the shipping on multiple items of the same thing does sound like a complaint.

Every year I buy two sets of the Kringle Express drawstring bags during free shipping days, but at $5.50 shipping/handling, I'm going to wait and hope for a free shipping day to come in the fall.

curious how @furbabylover got data that the Q increased sales by 60-70%?

@Puppy Lips I think you're right on target - shipping costs a great deal and volume alone doesn't necessarily pay for it.

I have no idea why QVC is having as many issues as they do, but I agree that a free shipping day might just exacerbate the problems - and because plenty of shoppers delay and delay waiting for free shipping, it really doesn't increase sales all that much - just amasses them to one day.

@Kachina624 Oh, I definitely agree with you, these are certainly not the good old days. I think life has changed permanently. Corona Virus is not going away. My husband and I are both up there in years, (We're up in our 70's and 80's) and a good example of how that has changed for us and everyone else is our doctors stopped seeing patients in their offices until just this month. And even now, they're only seeing us when a Telemedicine appt. won't suffice.

He had emergency surgery and I wasn't allowed to stay with him in pre-op. Not a complaint. Just a statement of how things have changed.

I hadn't realized QVC was struggling financially or that they had laid off 850 Hosts. Thank you for that information.

I'm watching the items I want, I was hoping for free shipping, but now after the responses I've received, I think I'm just going to purchase what I really want and pay the shipping. The sales prices are very good for the items I want. Good Luck, I hope there is a free shipping day in the Fall. So, you don't have to pay $5.50 for the Kringle Express drawstring bags.
But don't the prices increase after the 31st?

I'm not sure if the price for the Kringle Express bags increases after the 31st. If it does, there's usually a TSV closer to the holiday season, so I may wait to buy it then.

QVC is a part of a corporation that is public. Financials come out every quarter. The stock analysts have them listed as "hold" just a small drop from "buy.". There is nothing to indicate that business is booming, but also it certainly is not in trouble. They had some big layoffs but that was distribution centers in three places that looks like were consolidated into a brand new one in Bethlehem Pennsylvania.

I'm not sure either. But for some reason, I don't "think" Kringle Express raises the price. I haven't purchased them before but I think I've seen the bags at various times and I am almost certain they stay the same price.

I've ordered a few items, with reasonable shipping. I am wondering if QVC does raise prices after the 31st. I know there have been some things in presentations that the Host says the price will go up, and it has gone up.

@Kachina624 Thank you for clarifying that for me. I feel very bad for the Employees that were laid off. Where my husband and I live, houses are selling in huge numbers and a dear friend of ours is a Realtor, he told us people are losing their jobs due to the coronavirus. He's a good man, he's cut his commission for people that tell him the reason they're selling.
