WHERE DID I PUT THAT?!

This is for those who, like me, rotate decor in and out of their living areas, at whim.

(I keep two labeled bins of decor items in basement, and overflow in my mud room closet (a couple of shelves) and a few shelves in kitchen where I store stuff not in use.)

OK, in my living room at Easter, I had a vintage milk glass "basket" filled with wooden eggs, and stood it on an equally old milk glass "pin tray".

After Easter and dismantling that little display, put the milk glass tray "somewhere". But recently , puttering around, I set up a mercury glass beaker with candle in it on a small, round brass table. It needed something underneath to give it emphasis. That round milk glass tray! Today, and part of several other days , I hunted and scrabbled through those bins, shelves, etc, etc, to no avail.

My lovely system of labeled storage wasn't working-- it was nowhere to be found. Finally I just relaxed and glanced at the top of my curio cabinet. Instead of systematically putting it away after Easter, I had stuck it under a ginger jar at the top of the cabinet.

Maybe I'm too impulsive (and too sort of random, ha) to stick entirely to my system of rotate in, rotate out. Mostly it works.

I would like to know if other people have lost certain pieces of decor in storage for a period of time, and then they turn up. It's almost like getting something new and exciting!

Drives me crazy looking high & low for an item. It shows up when I am looking for something else.

I moved nearly 6 yrs ago to my current domicile. Unpacking, anything I hadn't found a place for, I threw into the pantry.

Through those years, I would tear up the house looking for something I knew I had when I moved here. I even blamed my cat a few times for "hiding" my stuff.

Then a light blub goes off........check the pantry.

VIOLA!!!!! I found it!

Between January & February, I spent every weekend cleaning out the pantry & putting EVERYTHING in its rightful place (around the house). My pantry is HUGE. Never seen one that large before. It is embedded in a whole side wall in the kitchen.

@Oznell Yes!

About 8 years ago, my daughter asked for a candle we always put out at Christmas. It's striped like a candy cane. She wanted to display it in her new home. I searched through everyone of my Christmas totes to no avail...that candle was nowhere to be found.

In January of this year, while packing up my Christmas decorations, that candle appeared. How I did not find it before will always mystify me.

I haven't told my daughter of my find. I'm going to pack it up, in a beautiful package, and put it in the mail the first week in November. I can't wait to hear her excitement!

Recently I found a garland I had previously looked all over for in my outside storage room.....

I am part of that club for sure. I decided that I would put a picture of my mother, my grandmother and I on an end table. Could not find my grandmother's picture. It was my mom's. When she passed it was mine. I never knew her but my mom named me after her. I eventually found it in my chest of drawers. Why there I will never know. I am named after her. My favorite story about her is one day after work my grandfather went home and she and the children were gone. Neighbors said she moved three streets down. Of course they rented.

Oh, bless you. I've certainly lost items temporarily because I've forgott4en where I put them, usually because I've put them in a "safe" place.

During one move, years ago, the movers picked up a loveseat and a little pouch of my jewelry fell out that I honestly didn't remember putting there. Now, this was when I was young, so no senior-itis excuse.

Now, I try to be intentional when storing items, but I'm still apt to lose things if I try to clean up quickly and don't put things in their proper home.

I had something similar happen to my two-foot tall silver tinsel tree that lives on my coffee table during the Christmas holiday period.

One year I looked and looked and it did not want to be found.

Finally I actually posted here about it being missing and many of the good people on this board sent me good wishes and good luck, and it wasn't very long before it actually turned up. (Thanks again to all who sent good wishes!)

A woman I adored (the mother of my BF from 14 on) was the one with the wonderful Victorian antiques. When I saw her home I just seemed to "center". She had a quite large collection of milk glass which she kept in THE most beautiful, heavy Victorian/primitive corner china cabinet you ever, ever saw!

I'd use it on into spring and summer with small silk flowers.

Uh-oh, @Marsha2003 and @GingerPeach -- pouches of jewelry and charming table-top trees-- those are definitely not good things to lose, and so glad for you that they safely turned up!

@Tennesseegal, yes isn't milk glass fun? I don't have much, a piece or two of hobnail, and a couple of pieces of smooth texture-- the smooth is not as bright white as the hobnail, it's more creamy and more vintage-looking.

@ECBG, I don't have the ability to take my own pictures and post here, but I looked on internet. My basket is one of those familiar pieces that is widely available and can be thrifted for a few dollars-- here's an exact duplicate of the one I have:

I like the fact that it is in the 'English hobnail' design-- these hobnails are diamond-shaped instead of round.

I couldn't find an exact duplicate of my vanity or pin tray, which is older. But although mine is roundish, this one is similar. It has more of that characteristic gold paint that they used to embellish them with-- mine is more worn off than this one:

I do this all the time. Just today I was looking for a display rack I use in the kitchen. I had taken the ceramic baker off of it and used it to hold fruit a couple of weeks ago. Now, I'm wanting to put the baker back in the rack for display, but do you think I can find the darn thing?

I remember thinking at the time, "Don't put it too far away, this will be a short term change", but darned if I can find it.
