Has anyone flocked their own Christmas tree?

Flocked an artificial tree I mean. I would like to try it but am wondering if I will be ruining my tree!

I did years ago. But, I'm sure the flocking spray is better now. But, for me it was very messy and the flocking came off if you touched the branches too much.

If I was going to try it, I would get a cheap little tree to practice on...from a garage sale or discount place you can get one pretty cheap.

You will be able to tell if it will turn out to your liking on your big tree!

@luvmybeetle Back in the '50s.........we whipped up Ivory Snow™ and water with an egg beater. (It turned out AWFUL)

DH has often mentioned when he was a kid, his mom would hire someone to come to the house to flock their tree.

I have and it's messy. I'm not a fan of flocking on the lights so that was my biggest issue. If you have a tree that doesn't have lights then I think the results are better. The flocking is also easier to control. IMO

If you do try the flocking buy a good brand. Check the reviews if you can. Make sure you have windows open and plenty of paper or plastic on your floors, etc. Keep your eye on the spray because this stuff sticks like glue to glass and fabric.

@Fressa Sounds like maybe it's more work than it's worth. There is a brand on Amazon I saw that has good reviews but it appears to be pretty messy. Thank you for the tips. Maybe I'll pass. lol

Yes...and I would recommend Sno Flock powder.......it's the best and gives the reults you want.

I did mine outside on a tarp....came out great!

Oh, thank you so much for your reply @Nataliesgramma! That is encouraging to me so I think I will try. One question though. Was your tree prelit? Mine is prelit and my fear is the lights not working after they are wet.

@itsmetoo I would be afraid of making a huge mess if doing it in the house. It would be extremely difficult to do it outside and then bring the tree in, so I imagine it would be done inside. I also would be afraid of the lights not working as you said. At the very least they would be dimmer because of the flocking.

All good points. I would definately not do it in the house but I could bring it in the house by taking the tree apart and bring in one section at a time. That would be easy enough. Good point about the lights being dimmer but the flocked trees I've seen in stores also have some flocking on the lights. It does worry me about them not working after getting wet though. Thank you so much for your input and it has given me more food for thought.
