Do you have a problem with out door thieves?

We have had several news stories of people stealing the flowers out of flowerbeds especially city or businesses. A garden shop that makes huge hanging planters to sell, mainly to businesses or churches, say they have planters stolen at night. I have stopped putting pots of flowers out front since dog walkers think it is acceptable to let their pet ****** on them. Very discouraged. I no longer put holiday lights, etc. out front.

do you have this problem?

I personally have not had anything taken from my yard, but I've read of this on my Next Door account. That is why I am hesitant to purchase the TSV lanterns. I think they would look nice on my front porch, but they seem too easy for someone to just pick up and take off with.

I can't say I noticed any problems. In fact I think the Christmas displays are getting bigger and more elaborate each year.

It seems like many people are doing displays for every holiday. Even changing the colors of the decorative lights they put up for each holiday. We decorate for Halloween and Christmas, that is enough for me. When I look at the neighbor's houses, I can't believe the effort they put into decorating their houses.

And today I noticed many exceptional displays of flowers. I was wondering what they did to make them look so nice. My flower bed is nice looking but theirs are beautiful.

My parents cannot put anything in their front yard that isn't bolted down because it will be stolen. Nothing has been dug up from the yard...yet.

My neighbor across the street had her garden flag stolen and I had my solar lights taken from my flower bed several years ago. We both replaced them. I haven't had any problems with Christmas decorations, but then I just have a wreath on the door and some string lights.

No but it has happened in the neighborhood. A house a few doors down had a nice bench on their front porch & someone stole it.

They bought another one to replace it but they bolted it down to the concrete. So far nobody has used bolt cutters to steal it.

I have 5 plants in pots on the front porch plus a large hanging basket.

I have 10 plants in pots out back plus 4 hanging baskets out back.

I haven't had the problem yet - knock on wood. But it's a wonder such theft doesn't happen more often. It's so easy to sell things on Craigslist and social media, and those who need money quickly could be tenpted.

My boss went on vacation and when she arrived home, two bushes in her front yard and been dug up! It is crazy that people do such things.

Our biggest problem here is porch pirates. My solution to the problem: 4 ft. high wrought iron fence and 2 dogs.

I've read about things like but I don't know anyone it's ever happened to. If that was a problem in my town, I'd know about it. I live my life out here in the real world, not be stuff I read in papers or on the internet. You have to live your life, you can't bubble wrap yourself.

I had a wreath stolen from my front door a couple of years ago. I double checked to see if the wind had blown it off. I checkd with neighbors and no one had seen it. So I'm sure someone took it. I didn't have a Ring camera at the time so not sure who did it! grrrrr

It’s sad, because it’s not a symptom of living in a specific socioeconomic neighborhood, it’s everywhere. If you put something nice out that someone wants, you risk it being stolen no matter where you live. I’ve had pumpkins, flower pots, urns, and various Christmas items taken from my porch at my previous home, and it was a nice neighborhood. If thieves decide to go shopping, it’s most likely going to be where they can find the best stuff.

Sometimes I wonder why plant nurseries don't have MORE thefts. They keep their stock right outside; what is to stop somebody from just picking up trees, shurbs, etc., at night? (Other than their own sense of honesty of course.)

No, thank goodness. Haven't had any decorations nor our Candle Impressions lantern out front stolen. It's been there for a few years and its still there plus I do have two security cameras. There has been some theft going on so I do worry.

Back in June, I did witness a strange incident when I came home from work. I saw a very nice car pull in front of my neighbor's house. An elderly woman who could barely walk and was all bent over walked up to my neighbor's patio and was peering through her window. She was carrying a pair of large garden shears and she kept looking around. My neighbor was not home from work yet. This woman then started to cut her peonies and stuffed them in a bag I thought maybe this woman knew my neighbor, but then I saw her cross over the yard and started chopping away at my other neighbor's flowers. I couldn't believe what I saw. I started to walk out of my house to confront her but by the time I got to the street, she was already in her car and drove off. After talking to my neighbor and describing her, she said she definitely was a flower thief.

Based on the crime reports in the local newspaper, it's a problem with apartment buildings around here ... but easy enough to avoid in our buildings.

We have an amenity available - like a concierge service - where we can have our packages delivered. You can also ship via UPS, USPS or FedEx through them. Includes lots of other services ... just a small monthly fee.

A friend who lives across town uses the UPS store to receive and ship.

Yes, I do have a problem with outdoor thieves. Just today I planted some black-eyed susans and put out two pots of dahlias at the edge of the cul-de-sac at the end of our driveway. When I came home the black-eyed susans were gone. And one pot of dahlias was being carried across the cul-de-sac ... by a big buck elk. I guess he wasn't about to give up his prize just because a human came by.

We don't have this issue, as we live out in the country, and while not as quiet and desolate as it was when we first moved here, so far we haven't had any issues, and I haven't heard of any of our neighbors having any issues either. We do get the occasional smashed mail box though.

We do have issues at even the nicest cemeteries in the area, having planters stolen off of the graves.

That's a whole other kind of low life that I hope answers for that some day.
