DARRYL CARTER'S WASHINGTON D.C. TOWNHOUSE

Where Julia Reed's place is traditional, colorful, "collected", Darryl Carter is traditional, restrained, classical, with a twist.

I love to read about people's purging efforts on this board, and do it myself (as much as I can!). Ideally, Julia Reed is what I would be if I didn't restrict my desire to collect, Darryl Carter is what I would be if I "edited" my belongings and only put out the very best and most singular items.

Love them both. He's an ex-lawyer who found his calling in design, and became the "king" of white paint. It was through him I found Benjamin Moore's fab combo of "Moonlight White" and "Simply White".

Not that crazy about some of his art, but oh those furniture pieces and the architecture of that wonderful house! Great kitchen too.

I prefer Darryls over Julias. I might remove a few pieces that I don't like and add a bit of greenery but I do like it.

@Oznell I enjoy your posts so much and insightful commentary. This space is lovely (for the most part) but left me feeling that I could not kick off my shoes and get cozy. The architecture is wonderful. I appreciate the edited approach but not his vibe. To me, his house is not a home, it’s to be admired but not lived in. A tour home, perhaps? I do love the kitchen. That animal head, ugh!

Thank you kindly @SunValley. I had the same reaction to that horrible buffalo head, or whatever!

You are right, it's not cozy. Might be a bit hard to live with. But maybe I'd have a little welcoming hideaway den in that house, and then for refreshment just go look at those lovely, spare, architecturally distinguished spaces!

Some absolutely stellar pieces and elements and some lovely rooms, but overall, a little too chilly and lacking in color for me. I also don't care for his choices of art. I prefer Julia's style.
