While having QVC on in the background when I work from home (nothing much on during the day)....I just can't believe the things that they are offering as "stocking stuffers"......I mean really a $27 item and with shipping and tax that makes it over $30.......Even back when my family/friends did "full tilt" and went all out on gifts, stocking stuffers were restricted to Christmas candy, maybe a $5 gift certificate to a coffee shop or fast food place, perhaps a pair of socks, lottery scratch offs.....or an inexpensive trinket....Now I realize QVC is in business to convinence us to buy things, but what QVC recommends is ridiculous for a stocking stuffer---they are showing things that some people spend on a main gift for family/friends......What do the rest of you think? Those of you that do stockings....what do you buy and what is the max price range do you think is reaonable....or if you were to do a stocking what do you think is reasonable for a stocking gift???.......

Our family all have Pottery Barn stockings which I love, but wish they weren't quite so large because it takes a lot to fill them. Nothing in anyone's stocking is over $10 and even that amount is rare. I don't buy stuff just to fill the stocking but rather fun little things and/or things people need. my 12 and 15 year old daughters might get makeup wipes, lip balm, drawing pencils, hair brushes, etc.
I also made the mistake of buying a coordinating giant stocking with our family name. This is filled with snacks and drinks for Christmas Day as well as some movies and board games. I admit, I spend a lot on all the stockings because we love them and they're often the highlight of the big day!

I don't know. I understand what you're saying @Spurt, but there have been times when my 'main' gift was in my stocking... Likewise, sometimes I will tuck a piece of jewelry or something like that in a stocking rather than put it under the tree. I've even hidden a small 'important' present in a little basket ornament on the tree.

@stevieb

I understand what your saying STEVIE if someone wants to present a main gift or special gift in a stocking that is certainly understandable and makes sense for that gift to be as pricey as you want or at the max limit set by family or friends......Or if you wanted to surprise someone by putting jewlery in their stocking rather than in a package under the tree.....But what i am saying (and I guess not very well) would you buy tons of other gifts in addition to the jewelry you put in that person's stocking.....I know a lot of people, including me, have a limit that we can afford to spend for the Holidays....

And what I can't understand is how the QVC hosts expects customers to purchase a ton of gifts for each person PLUS an extra and quite pricey gift for each stocking, viewed by them as just "a little something extra" and act like it's just chump change--It just makes me wonder how much they think people spend on gifts per person---with companies downsizing, health insurance costs rising, groceries going up etc etc---how can people afford to spend that much for the holidays...
