Lightning struck twice!---Hopes Dashed...

Last year I was able to get a Mackenzie-Childs "Deck the Halls" tea kettle "as is" not long after the holidays were over, at a significant discount from it's almost $170 price tag. This year, I wanted one of the "Kilted" limited edition tea kettles, but didn't want to spend the $180, and then the design sold out at the Q. I was just about to bite the bullet and order one directly from the McK-C website, but decided to haunt Q's inventory. They kept listing both a new and an "as is" version in search results, but both were "sold out" when I clicked on them. So, I waited and checked and checked and checked again, and this morning, I was rewarded! Whoopee, an "as is" Kilted kettle for $125 instead of $180 went immediately into my cart, got paid for, and is now "in process". I guess it just goes to show that, every once in a while, patience can be rewarded. I've been very pleased with the kettle I got last year, but it's very much a Christmas-time pattern, so the Kilted kettle will do nicely the rest of the year, and bring another little touch of Scotland to my kitchen.

As an aside, when I was looking at the MacKenzie-Childs website, I checked out the sale pages, and the first day of the sale, the Deck The Halls tea kettle was marked down to $99, and all the rest of the items with that design also seemed to be on sale. I suspect it may be a retiring design, so if you really love it, you might want to get one, either new from the Q or from a secondary sale site.

I was also watching the tea kettles "bayside", and saw a couple of the older holiday tea kettle designs, which were also quite pretty, so I wonder if the company brings out a new holiday design every couple years or so, and retires the older ones?

I ordered some Deck the Halls pieces after Christmas. They haven't arrived yet. I would be surprised if the design retired.

Well, my package arrived today, and instead of the "kilted" kettle, they sent me the pink kettle with the cat design. Clearly, nobody opened the box some customer returned to verify what was in it, or what condition it was in. I didn't inspect it closely, but for all I know it may have a bunch of dents in it, or chipped enamel, or broken handle. Now I have to tape it up and send it back and hope they give me my full purchase price back and don't charge me the return fee, not to mention waiting weeks or months for the refund to show up.

Honestly, I don't know why I order anything from QVC any more, either the quality is junk-level or the fit is horrible, or, as is the current situation, I got something I didn't order in the first place.

As a secondary note to this saga, I want to warn all QVC purchasers to make SURE you remove all mailing labels from the outside of your packages before you send them back to QVC when making a return! I was getting the pink kitty kettle ready to send back to QVC today, removing all but the return label, and I found one from the person who sent the kettle back to the Q in the first place. I now know the full name(s) and mailing address of this person! I am an ethical person, but if I were not, who knows what kind of harm I might do with this info? So please, everyone, make sure you get all those labels off the boxes before making a return, the Q clearly isn't going to do it for you, or I wouldn't have found one today.

Wow, I should have kept that cat tea kettle and listed it on e-bay! There are only two right now, listed for around $600 and over $700! I might have made quite a nice profit from QVC's mistake, there, if I'd put it up starting at $250 plus shipping I'd have doubled my money! But of course, no Kilted kettles at all., so it's list price from MacKenzie-Childs or nothing, now.

Indeed, @occasionalrain , but at least I didn't have to go down a ski jump to do it, LOL! As an aside, I understand the ski jumper who was filmed for that old ABC intro clip for their "Wide World of Sports" programs survived, and is still alive today. I had to avert my eyes, that crash looked SO PAINFUL!

And I ordered a brand new one from MacKenzie-Childs, it's sitting on my stove top now, in place of my MC Christmas-design tea kettle. I suppose, when it finally gets truly warm outside, I'll switch it out for my "Caribbean" Le Creuset kettle, but I do really love that Kilted kettle, it brings me a smile every time I see it. My own lilttle bit of Scotland in my kitchen.
