Securing Trees in Urns

How do you place small trees in urns so they stay upright? Styrofoam? I can't imagine them staying upright unless you have a special urn.

No special urn. I went to Petsmart & bought different sizes of stones like you put in an aquarium. I put them around in the pot after I put the tree in. They are in plastic bags to it is perfect to weight the trees down.

If you are planting the tree in an urn outside...the tree comes with a stake as well as a three arm stand. The stake you can put in the dirt in a pot/urn. For inside.. you can get styrofoam and use the same stake (if the stand) does not fit inside your urn.

My yard is landscaped with large Gravel. I'd just scoop up some for my urn.

Valerie uses the 8" styrofoam cake disc. At a Christmas store by me they cement in a holder that has a pole in it to put the tree in. Obviously the cement one is strong and you don't have to worry about weight of ornaments. Valerie's version would be for a lightly decorated tree.

I also use stones - I've bought them at Lowes and Amazon. I fill the urn about half way, insert the tree, then add more stones to secure it more.

Can also check at garden centers and Home Depot type stores for a better price for a larger quantity. Mine also sometimes let you choose by color and size of stone.

@Biftu I use bricks. I just pile them evenly around the stakes up to the top.They keep the urns from falling over in the wind.

@Still Raining. Gravel in landscaping is so popular in New Mexico, we have a rock company where you can choose from huge piles of various types. Of course most people order dump truck loads.

So I went in one day, a bit embarrassed, with my five gallon bucket and ask if I could buy a bucket full. She said, "sure" and charged me $1. I went and picked what I wanted and filled my bucket.

@Biftu - And this may already have occurred to you, but just in case you haven't thought about it yet, no matter what you add to the urn to support the tree, you can easily cover it with a mini tree skirt (or just fabric) or some fake snow or anything that goes with your decor—you don't have to stare at a pile of rocks under your tree.

I know some one, who shall be nameless 🙄, who searches for the color to match his front gate stone pillars. Just a couple of pounds to blend at their base.

The stones are basically dirt color IMHO.
