Halloween Candy

I was at my local grocery store over the weekend. They sure have A LOT of Halloween candy available. Usually by this time it's all picked over and nearly gone. I admit, I'm buying less candy this year due to prices. In the past, if we were running low, my husband would run out for more. This year, once we're out...we're done.

They'll probably put it back out on the shelves again next August for Halloween 2026.

Same here. Lots of candy on store shelves because prices are so high IMO. I bought some non-chocolate candy as I can't resist chocolate if it's in the house.

I bought mine at the beginning of the month, and I'm glad I did. My ShopRite is very low on the good stuff. I had to go further down the road for the KitKats. For me, a good mixture of fun-sized chocolate candy is what I hope to offer throughout the evening. If there is any candy left, I'll send it into work with DH and DS.

I'm getting so excited! Love to see our little visitors!

I went to Sam's Club to buy Halloween candy. I only buy chocolate, not that cheap sugar junk and it was a lot more expensive than it was in prior years.

Candy must not be selling like hot cakes, because they had isles and isles of bags of small candy bar assortments.

I spent more money than I wanted to, that's for sure.

I stopped with Halloween a few years ago. Between the cost and parents, I was over it.

When I was doing it, I gave out full size Hershey bars. Not sure if that's still economical, but I found it was the same or cheaper to buy full size bars and give one out as opposed to grabbing a handful of smaller candy for each kid.

Amazon used to run some really good deals on full size candy. Might be worth checking out if you have Prime and still need some. Walmart also used to sell full size cartons of the good stuff.

Oh and have some animal cracker boxes or packs for the really little ones. They help save you money too and the parents appreciate the thought.

Target has a lot of bare space where candy used to be. The grocery store, which is a little more expensive for the same thing, had plenty of candy. Sam's Club full size candy boxes needed to be replenished.

I stopped giving out candy in 2011. Just got sick of it and we didn't get very many kids so I ended up sending all the leftover candy to our work offices. I didn't want to feed the mooches at work any more. Now that we're retired I just don't want to spend the money when the kids have so many others places to get candy.

I always buy 1 bag of candy---just in case. Have lived in my apt now for going on 5 years and have never had any kids come to the door---same with the house I lived in for 35 years--maybe had 20 kids in all those years---don't buy junky candy--but something I like too

I don't see many kids going up and down the street anymore. When I was a kid and dinosaurs roamed the earth the sidewalks were teeming with trick or treaters.

I live in an apartment complex and kids have never come here in my 5 years, but just to be safe.....the Snickers, Almond Joy and Reeses are here.

If no kids come I will just have to suck it up and eat them myself. Like every year.

There are more and more trunk-or-treat events. Some kids might only go to that. Some may do multiple. Last Saturday at an outdoor mall I saw each store had a table outside with candy and kids in costumes were trick-or-tresting there.

There are a lot of kids in my area so there are plenty of trick-or-treaters coming to the door.

In regards to Trick or Treat - our son and DIL live in a moderately sized neighborhood. I did not realize the extent of this until last year, but, families from all over the place drive there so they can trick or treat on their streets. I walked with them last year and the streets were PACKED with families, all getting their candy. There were way more people there than live on those streets. My husband was passing out candy so my son could be with his family. He ran out, only because of the amount of people. My DIL did not feel like she should have to treat what felt like the entire city.

When we left, we drove down the road that leads into their neighborhool and it was lined with parked cars, one after the other, off to the side of the road, so they could get candy.

I don't know how I feel about that. Part, or really Most, of me feels like they should stay in their own neighborhood or do their own thing.

What do you all think?

I have mine. Milky Ways and Rice Kripy treats. The last three years under 30 kids. I make treat bags for the closest neighbors kids. I just think parents prefer some of these trunk or treat events instead of Halloween night. Maybe more this year with Halloween being a Friday. We shall see.

The grocery store shelves were full yesterday.

I'm going to buy my candy tomorrow. I don't expect them to reduce the prices but I know Walgrens definitely starts pricing it down the day after Halloween. I had a lot of kids last year so I intend to buy more candy. Happy pre-Halloween!
