SEASONAL TABLE SETTING WITH ANIMALS

Flower Magazine did a fall table setting in cooperation with the Replacements company. They only showed this one image of the table below, but it's the "Rambouillet" china pattern by Faiencerie de Gien that grabbed me.

It's just kind of a fanciful, fall setting--

My favorite is probably the wonderful Pheasant dinner plate above, but I found other pieces of "Rambouillet" on the Replacements site.

"Rambouillet" is one of those fun autumnal patterns, which has different animals and scenes, on the different pieces.

Love the precious bunnies of the Rabbit soup bowl:

And the noble Basset Hound plate:

And the Mallard teapot. It's insanely expensive-- I think it was something like $600!

The Partridge cup and saucer set:

The Woodcock / Pheasant covered casserole:

The one thing I could live without on the table are the feather place mats! But like everything else.

The gold dotted charger underneath the place setting is "Palladio" by Vietri.

The flatware is "Gold Cane" by Towle Silver.

The amber glassware is "Arlington" by Southern Living.

The green goblets are "Arabesque by Denby.

The embroidered linen napkins are "Darcy" by Leontine Linens.

The French can be amusingly earthy. "Rambouillet" is a type of very sturdy sheep developed in France. I only know that because they like to name other things Rambouillet, including a crystal pattern that I've always liked.

They're a hardy, very cute breed, look so soft:

The pattern sets a lovely table, but I prefer to eat from solid white or ivory dinnerware.

I guess it's cute, but I believe animals have their place and for me, it's not on my dinner table.

Oh, true, @AuntG -- "Replacements" is almost always more expensive than other second hand markets, plus their shipping is really, really high. I think their one selling point is that they have a reputation for good quality assurance, and won't sell a second hand item that is flawed, if they say that it isn't.

But even apart from that, I got the sense that this "Rambouillet" pattern is absurdly high. I checked around, for fun, and Neiman Marcus is selling this Pointer dessert plate in the pattern for $430! One plate!

You hit my love for porcelain and china patterns !

I just love Gien pattens. They are so clever and go out of the safe borders. I have 2 plates of Rambouillet, precisely beccause they are so autumnal and interesting in pattern. I have the Hare and the Pheasant, bought decades ago when I was silly enough not to buy the stunning serving pieces. The serving pieces remind me of Majolica, which is always a fun theme to introduce.

Who would have thought a plate with a large black boar on it would be so beautiful?

Some of my other favoritie Gien patterns:

Jardin de Palace: Is magnificent in either the white or black background

Routes des Indes: Reminds me so of a trip to southern Inida

I have a little collection of dog plates from Anthropology. I have them hung on my walls.....

Wow, @SactoSue , you are truly a discerning and eclectic collector, judging by your various posts. Envy you your Rambouillet acquisitions!

Those two other plates you show are ravishing, the brilliant colors and conception. Faiencerie de Gien must be a fantastic porcelain house...

@GingerHead , how neat that you have a dog plate collection. I bet they are great. I have a few Danish dog plates, blue and white by Tove Svendsen, here's an image from online--

That little guy is the cairn terrier, and the others are different breeds. In my former house, I used to have mine in a loose arrangement on the wall too, but now they live in a curio cabinet. I should put mine up again on the wall like you have!

Mine are from Anthropology.

Right now they aren't on my walls because I swap them out for scary Halloween pictures.....

Thanks, I love the colors too, kinda looks pop art-ish.

I did tweak them a little since I just use them as wall hangings by blotting them with some watered down chalk paint to make them look a little more aged and muted.

I can never leave well enough alone!....

Are you going to hang your dog plates again? I just love that look....

@GingerHead , of course your artistic sensibility requires tweaking, to get the exact look you envision!

I'm thinking about hanging them again. My son is sanding the floor of our spare bedroom, at a snail's pace. One evening a week, after a long work day! So it will take forever.

(There was hideous carpet glue, WELDED to the original hardwood, which even with an electric sander, is taking a loong time to get rid of. Why, oh why, did some past homeowner glue down carpet like that?)

Once that's done, and the rest of the room is finished, I think the dog plates could look quite ethereal in there...

Oh my what a nightmare! Glued down carpet?

We have paid for the sins of past home owners as well! haha.

We usually hate to hear that the previous owners did all the work themselves because more times than not they take short cuts or just don't know what they're doing and end up causing more work for us.

It does take time, we have learned that even when things go right it usually takes us 3 x's the amt of time we initially estimate!

Sounds like you've got some time to figure out your decor with your sweet son's pace and the amt of work ahead of him! So on the bright side....you will have more time to contemplate exactly where you'll hang your dog plates !

@Oznell I use animals, dishes and figures, in all of my decor, Fall is hedgehogs mostly., foxes, and squirrels.

A cousin in Eastern Canada had a sheep farm, made cottage cheese, etc.
