CARRYING TOTE BAG??

Ok, is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem carrying a tote bag on their shoulder?? I just puchased a D&B medium size tote. Two handles, which I love.

But 2 handles never stays on my shoulder!!! And I need a shoulde type bag, don't want to carry it in my hands.

Anyone else?

Only time I have a problem is when the material of the handles and the material of my top creates a slick surface.

Never had problem with my Michael Kors and Longchamp and I am slim and narrow shouldered.

As you age your shoulders slope downwards, this has happened to me and I cant keep any bag on my shoulder anymore.

I can relate - I have small sloping shoulders and never have been able to carry a purse/tote with double handles that are very thick. I stick with crossbody bags, bags with narrow single straps, or chain straps.

The ease with which a bag stays on my shoulders seems to depend on the individual bag and how the straps are made. Some are better than others about staying put.

Though it doesn't often apply to leather totes, I do find that fabric straps stay in place better than does leather, so I have no problem with some of the recent bags offering a fabric strap in addition to hand-held handles, largely on satchels, which I prefer.

I have trouble with them if the bag is heavy to start with. I have a problem with Dooney bags for that very reason. I like the design but they are just to heavy.

Have you tried the crossover trick? Let one of the straps cross over.

I haven't had the sloping shoulder problem, but I have seen women cross one strap over the other nad it stays in place. I have tried this trick also. Sometimes I have pushed the bag further up my shoulder and it stays in place with the bag pushed to the bag.. Have done with this with the Flynn. This issue is why I don't have too many double handled totes in the first place.

I got some clear plastic strips on Amazon that are applied to the underside of the strap and help keep the bag on your shoulder.

A little tip: If your tote has straps that buckle onto the main part of the bag, unbuckle them, then cross them, then re-buckle. You won't lose a strap down your arm this way.

I mostly avoid bags that have shoulder straps and no crossbody option because that bag is going to slide to my elbow and drag me down the stairs if I'm trying to carry my groceries or a computer bag upstairs to my apartment.

If I do get a shoulder bag, I look for one that has O or D-rings and matches a crossbody bag I already own with a removable strap. I have a Dooney Chelsea tote with a shoulder strap and the D-rings also fit a crossbody strap I swap from another bag.

If that's not an option, I look for bags that have the silicon "gel" on the bottom of the shoulder strap to hold the bag in place. Several of the Lug bags have that and it works well for me.

Totally agree! I dislike double strap bags and totes with short straps for this reason. I have broad shoulders, and a strap still falls off my shoulder. Drives me crazy. Only one strap shoulder or crossbody bags for me.
