I get the impression investigations are ongoing, but she did leave a suicide note. I read this -- Just last year, Coach bought the Kate Spade company in a $2.4 billion deal. I always think, Please don't do this, but we can't imagine the private life of another.

How sad and what sad news for her family and friends. We really don't know what goes on behind the scenes in these people's lives. It is rather shocking news.

Even though Kate and her husband sold the Kate Spade brand long ago, her name is forever linked to the Kate Spade handbag line. I wonder how this will affect the Kate Spade brand going forward? When a brand is named after the founder or owner and the owner dies under unfortunate circumstances do people still want to buy or carry the brand?

I was going to buy my daughter a nice crossbody bag from the Kate Spade outlet store on my next trip to Las Vegas and now I'm not so sure. I don't know what to do as this bag would be a gift and if the brand has sad connotations now I am thinking it won't be lucky to own this brand.

@TY You are not alone. I don't have any Kate Spade bags but I was wondering about those who do. I'm not so sure I could bring myself to wear one right now. A personal decision for everyone but I totally understand your hesitation. I think it will become a real tribute in the future but personally, if I had one, I would put it away for a bit. So sad to see her name right now.

May she rest in peace. I have a cherry red Kate Spade and a lilac Kate Spade. I will think of her when I use them. That's a lovely photo of her.

I own many handbags and wallets from KS. I was so sad to hear of her passing this AM. A few of the bags are so fun and whimsical - they make me happy to carry/wear. I have some more traditional as well. At lunch I looked at the wallet I'm carrying with the black background and floral design and felt sad. May her family find comfort and happy memories and the strength to get through this horrid way to leave the earth.

Wow. So hard to understand. One would think she had so much success, fame, fortune... She must have been able to afford the best care. But obviously she must have been suffering inside- to the extent of suicide as an escape- wow.

I have several Kate Spade bags. It would never occur to me NOT to carry them. I’m currently carrying one. I think it’s a great tribute.

It’s like I wear three rings from my grandmothers every day. They’re deceased. I wear those rings because they’re gorgeous and because when I look at them I think of my grandmothers. And that’s a great memory to have.

While the company was recently sold to Coach, she hadn't been involved with the company since about 2006, when she sold her shares to a co-owner. They merely continued using the name. She reportedly hanged herself, which is a pretty gruesome way to go...

I am sooooo heart broken for her and her daughter..... I have a few of her bags and wallets. She was a great talent I will surely miss..... Sad, sad world.....

Yes, Coach bought the Kate Spade company for $2.4 billion BUT she sold it years before for only $34 million. When she sold it, she said she wanted to spend time raising her daughter. $34 million is certainly a nice chunk of change but she ultimately realized (according to an interview with her) that she sold it too quickly and should have waited when she could get a higher price. Recently she started a new company called Francis Valentine.

She must have been in the depths of some kind of depression to commit suicide leaving behind her teenage daughter. Suicide note said: "...This is has nothing to do with you. It's not you fault. Ask daddy..." Now the daughter will be blaming her dad?

Apparently her husband was already on the search for his own apartment in NYC.

As a handbag collector she was one of my favorites. Her bags were so unusual, fun, they could be simple, usable,and well groomed and affordable. The leather wonderful. THe line had something for everyone!!! they could be quirky, funky and fun. I have a straw bee hive purse 4 years old people stop me everywhere to inquire about!

I always bought mine from her website. she sold the company years ago. I believe she sold part of it to neiman marcus , then sold the rest to liz claiborne and coach bought it all for over a billion a few months back. The unusual thing that kept her legacy, and made her a well sought out brand is the companies that bought her out, kept the integrity of the original brand and designer...Kate Spade. I felt the quality was kept, the designs were kept true to her. They had new designs and colors every season. Her website had the best sales. I loved the secret sales, but I think when Coach bought it, they put an end to the frequent sales. Lets see how they keep the quality and her spirit in the designs. Amazing!!! She will be missed. Truely.

This was very shocking news. Reminded me to do a 'buddy check'. So, Q buddies are you okay? You are not alone...we may disagree on fashion and brands but we are all in this together and let's support each other.

Please don't take permanent solutions to temporary problems.
