I thought the same thing about the strap. I also would have liked to see a model show it so that I could see the drop, even though I have no intention of paying $500 for a handbag. I thought the leather looked beautiful, especially in the bordeaux.

From what I understand the hardware is Paladium (in the Platinum metal family) and the entire bag is lined in leather! There's suede on the under side of the shoulder strap (great idea for no slip!). There's a lot going on with this one that is really nice and ticks up the price ..... and really worth the TSV price IMHO.... but I think I'll wait until this "new" leather has been around awhile and see how it does before I invest.... Beautiful bag!

you can buy that bag in more colors on the dooney websight? plus free shipping. and they offer doney payment plan for the same price. they are doing you no favors paying 13 for shipping. the cross body bag on website looks nice but 500 is two much. also bought last todays speicial and it was just ok.

If people like Dooney and want to pay for Dooney, that's there perogative. I own a few Dooneys and I get complements on them.

Just yesterday (while waiting in line) I had a lady tell me she liked my Dooney purse. We have a several minute conversation about Dooney purses. She said her military Commissary sells them.

More power to anyone who wants to buy them. That's the beauty of this country. Buy what you want and what you like. It's no one's business. Everyone has their right to say somethings expensive but others have a right to buy them.

Just as if people want to pay $10 for a purse that's their business. I wonder which one will hold up though.

My metallurgist DH says palladium is VERY EXPENSIVE, much softer, but those of you that want to DIP your bag in some kind of liquid - just know that it is corrosion-resistant

I have two SAK leather bags that I love. They are identical but different colors...my sister and I bought them at the same time. The only thing I hate is they destroyed it with the canvas straps. I wish they made the straps leather.

So I am in agreement, don't give me an expensive leather bag and skimp on the straps...cheapens the bag, canvas can look dirty quick and you'd asking $500, for goodness sakes make the strap leather....smh

I see your point, but It isn't about saving money on the strap; it's about the messenger style, which uses that type of strap. The strap detaches if you don't care for it. Or, just move on and it's easy to find another style you like better. No right or wrong!

From 1970 into the 1990's all Dooney & Bourke handbags and wallets were ALL make in the USA.

Dooney & Bourke, then moved their production and manufacturing out of the USA and over seas to China...

I personally believe, when the company decided to due this...The quality and workmanship of their handbags and wallets is just not the same. This is when I stopped buying their handbags.

It probably cost $28.00 to make that $498.00 Dooney & Bourke Handbag that is made China!

Why then not just go to Walmart...All their handbags are made in China. With the most expensive probably around $24.00

I had that bag in and out of my cart yesterday practically all day. I love the looks of that bag. I was drooling over it that's how much I wanted it in the expresso color. I agree with you ladies about the strap. It should have been leather. I also didn't like the way it was attached either. I like the strap to be attached to each side of the bag not the way Susan showed it.

What was worse then the strap was the fact that the handles didn't go up and down. For 541 dollars including tax and shipping, Peter Dooney could have made those handles go up and down. That was another deal breaker for me. It's a shame because that was the prettiest Dooney I've seen in years from this company. Oh well I saved myself almost 600 dollars .

Also, Gosh forbid if QVC offered free shipping on that bag. I think if they did I probably would have hit the submit button.

The especially sad thing about moving their manufacturing overseas is that the price of their handbags did not descrease. As a matter of fact, their handbags are more expensive than ever. D&B is a greedy company. After having purchased their bags way back in the 80s and 90s, I will never purchase one of them again. I work hard for my money. I want to support my fellow American workers, not the greedy men who run so-called American corporations.

At least make the handles long enough to wear over the shoulder so you can dispense with that strap.

I said a simiilar thing when I saw that bag on the Dooney website. I'm not paying 500 for a bag with a canvas strap.
