Sling Bag?

I think a sling bag is a handbag that is smaller and is worn across your shoulder high up on the body or like a backpack....I broke my shoulder and cannot use any of my handbags (most are heavy).

I was thinking about a sling bag so I could carry a few nore things that I can currently get in the small bag I carry...I am currently using a small zippered bag that holds just a few things I carry it by the strap.

If anyone has one of these bags, do you like it...they seem high up on the body, is that comfortable?

I did a search on QVC and saw a limited number of bags but no video to watch as to how they work.

Appreciate any feedback.

I notice some young women wearing the sling bag in the front, over their breasts. It just looks odd and uncomfortable to me. It is also an unattractive look, in my opinion. I hope this fashion fad soon fades away.

I use a sling bag while hiking. I wear it in front of my chest. It is comfortable and out of the way. I have two different kinds.

@Mom2Dogs I use sling bags all the time. I usually wear them on my back but can position beneath my arm or in front when I have security concerns or need access to the contents. I treasure them when I travel. I have both canvas and leather. I bought a smaller body hugger that is low profile for travel to hold phone and passport and tickets for travel.

Slings do not flop about like cross body bags. They hug your body and are adjustable to fit your body.

If I need to be dressed up, I swap out for cross body or other. I would not be without my slings. So convenient. I bet if you but one, you will be hooked!

Maybe backpacks as handbags are going out of style? For some reason, I couldn't get into carrying a backpack on a daily basis. I always see it as travel accessory or for people in school

@cindyNC I am not a fan of back packs, I just need something other than my current handbags and smaller than what I have.

@Mom2Dogs I'm a huge fan of Kipling bags. I have several - quite a few purchased online at TJMaxx.........but I usually research the same bag on other websites as TJMaxx doesn't give the width of the bag at the bottom.

@Mom2Dogs @cindyNCSlings are not backpacks. They are totally different. Maybe a trip to a B & M store to try them out is in order. Slings are much easier on and off and have much more manuverability than backpacks. One feature you will want to test out is how the strap feels across the shoulder and how many compartments there are. I like two to three compartments, no more.

@Lilysmom1 Thanks for the explanation. There is a TJ Maxx about 25 miles from home, I need to take trip (once I line up a driver).

I have gotten along with just a very few things in the zippered wrist bag I have been carrying for 6 weeks...who knew I could get along with out all the important things I used to carry in my handbags.

I can't get into that look. My daughter wears one and it looks like she has a broken arm in a sling. I don't like them.

Hoping you will recover quickly. Broken shoulder is a tough one.

Not sure if you have a Vera Bradley nearby. They really push slingbags. You can also look at their website.

I don't like anything close to my neck, so I have not figured out a way to wear them comfortably. Depending how high you can lift your arm as you recover, they may not work for you right now.

What about a lightweight crossbody?

@roeroe1005 Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen several younger women (I am 68) wearing these bags, but they seem to be pretty high up on their chest, it looks odd to me...but maybe it's a generation thing.

I need to go to an actual store and check them out. My current bags are a Dooney, and a couple of Patricia Nash bags and a Coach, a few others but all to heavy now...even when empty.

My shoulder is still on the outs and no way could I use this bag.

They fasten with a clasp - can you reach both hands together and push? Can you reach the strap over a shoulder one handed? And reach for the end?

Are you far enough along to put your sling on with no assistance? Then maybe.

I have a Ameribag Healthy Back Bag that is made to take the weight off of your shoulders.

I have used the same one for over 25 years. It has gone with me on my travels all over the world. I use it for vacations. I load it up with everything and the weight doesn't bother my back or shoulders.

It comes in two sizes. I have the smaller one, but it's not that small.

It's made from a lightweight nylon material and is washable.

It looks a lot like the " new" sling bags. I recommend it.
