Rattan, straw and seagrass bags for summer

I'm on the hunt for the perfect summer bag, a straw or seagrass type of bag. I prefer something on the smaller side as I don't like to carry a bunch of unneccessary stuff anymore. I would also like it to have a crossbody strap option. I started a search on Etsy and there are lots of very reasonably priced options there. Below are some of my favorites so far. Right now I'm leaning towards #3 or #4. I really like #5, but I think the smaller hand strap would be annoying, and it's not detachable. There are so many nice options there. Which would you choose?

Those bags are great-looking for summer ..... BUT

Be careful - check the surface closely.

Several years back, I ruined some knit clothes - they snagged on the surface of the rattan bag.

Lesson learned? Check all bags for smoother snag free surface before buying.

Here's another caution: don't wear your woven straw etc bag next to a dark denim. The indigo dye rubs off onto the light woven surface and its impossible to get off without damaging the fibers. I ruined a Patricia Nash woven bag this way.

Nice selection! I like all of them!

I have been eyeing these from Brighton (I like this first one in the black leather trim). Brighton makes excellent quality bags with no worries about any snagging and these have outside pockets.

@haddon9 - that is on my list, waiting for it to get to the store to check it out personally. But maybe you can tell me....does it have "Feet" on the bottom? I hate to sit a bag on the floor unless it has feet.

@SharkE . It's a Talbots and they had a 40% off one item recently. Sale over but they'll have it again in a few days . I've seen that in person at our local Talbots, it's medium not light weight so may be a cooler weather jacket for you in TX.

@rockygems123 Your summer bag is adorable. I have loved having a straw or woven bag in summer, since I was in high school in the 60's.

A couple of years ago, I got an aqua leather Dooney & Bourke bag that has panels on the front and back that look like woven

straw in a tan color, and the matching wallet.

About 15 years ago, on Etsy, I found a few vintage woven bags from the 50's or 60's. They have lucite handles and two of them have seashells decorating the front. Those were made in Florida. They are small and are fun to carry in the summer.

@Enufstuff . Those purses are fantastic finds! I see vintage purses fairly often as I'm an antique dealer - selling mostly jewelry though - but love purses. They must be fun to carry in summer!

@rockygems123 Antiques have been one of my passions since the 70's. In the mid 70's - early 80's, I had an antique shop, north of Boston. My husband and I had fun going to auctions and flea markets, estate sales to find things for the shop. It was quite addictive. The hunt was the fun part, we never knew what treasure we would find.

Of course, I brought most of my best stuff home and as a result, have a house full of too many collections.

My husband collected antique clocks and cars. Once he even brought home a fire engine.

I loved collecting Art Nouveau jewelry and small silver pieces like hand mirrors and powder boxes. I also loved finding vintage textiles and clothing that I could wear when I was a size 4-6. Back then I loved Victorian and Edwardian styles.

Then there was the furniture, framed art, dolls and glassware, Japanese Satsuma and way too much more. My best find is a

cathedral top oak Hoosier cabinet in mint original condition that has been in my kitchen since the 70's.

What style of jewelry do you sell? Do you have your own favorite collections? Do you have a shop or sell online? I was

thinking of starting an Etsy shop to sell some of my treasures.

By the way, your bag reminded me of an antique chair that my mother had, with the caning on the seat.

@We rescue cats Good question! I saw this bag online and when I went into Brighton over the winter they told me that it was also going to be available in a black trim in addiditon to the one shown. It was too early in the season to have them in stock at the time.

I have not gotten a chance to go into a Brighton store to see it in person yet. There is a shop locally to me that sells Brighton items but they are limited in their selection. I will ask them the next time I go in about feet on the bag and they just might have it on display.

@Enufstuff: That must have been fun owning a shop. It really is a treasure hunt.

The jewelry I sell is the whole range, old, new, costume and fine. Ironically I recently purchased a 500 piece lot of QVC jewelry, that has been fun! My venue for selling is Ebay and have been on since my now almost 27 yr old son was born....wanted to do the work from home thing which was atypical then lol.
