Dooney Tilton Florentine Leather or Dooney Newbury?

Just as we got excited about the Dooney Tilton in Florentine leather $458 fabric strap, the Dooney website now shows the same design they are calling the Newbury $298, leather strap. Many shades! Not Florentine.

I too got this email from Dooney. So many beautiful bags and the pricepoint is, well, much better. Looks like calfskin.

@1Professor @foo foo shi shi @Serendipity I like this Newbury Dixon Crossbody much better and it's not as expensive! I especially like the brown and mushroom, pictured below. The same silhouette is also offered in suede: the Suede Dixon Crossbody (additional color options).

@EdithEllenLily @1Professor @foo foo shi shi Great colors. Love that mushroom and the light blue. And definitely better pricing. Wish there was a smaller version offered, too. (A size somewhere in between the two toggle crossbodies that were once offered in florentine -- always thought one was too big and the other too small.)

Well, even as I am intrigued with Dooney's Newbury, the Florentine leather Tilton just arrived on my doorstep.

I don't know how any leather can hold a light to Florentine. Soft, squishy, looks like it would last for decades.

Sorry Prof... I never (ever) got excited about the Tilton. Didn't like anything about it. So, for me, the Newbury looks sort of interesting. Probably not interesting enough to buy, but a pretty bag nonetheless... Prefer the leather strap and more stylish silhouette, though I've never been a fan of that fold over top, which alone is a deal breaker for me. Agree though, the Florentine leather is very nice, though I like some of their others equally as well.

@stevieb: I am a sucker for large hobos, I guess. The inside of my handbags is well-organized, not random clutter (two florentine leather pouches, one amazing wallet, keys, cell phone, halo cell phone battery recharger). But I like having more room for the occasional soft shawl, or knitting projects (rainbow socks), or a book . . . The fold-over top is zen simplicity for me, since I'm not fond of buckles and metal extra fasteners.

Only keeping ONE Dooney Florentine, however, and the BARLOW arrives Thursday!

Loved the Dooney Tilton, but just couldn't make it work, since the strap is ONLY for crossbody. Just hits too low and I don't like always going crossbody. Packed it up and returned it.

On the Florentine-Leather-Bright-Side, the BARLOW arrived 3 days early! Florentine leather, heaven, opens wide, perfect straps.

Ooohhh...good to hear that you love the Barlow. It is just so elegant. Loved the mini braid detail and the duck logo from the presentation. I just can't do the big bags any more, but this one is truly special for the right person. Glad you are happy and enjoy your find !!

Sorry it didn't work out Professor. I, too, only like shoulder strap bags. That bag is pretty though. I wish they would make a smaller version of it. I couldn't fill that up if I tried, lol.
