@Meowingkitty Interested in what you find! I also am not interested in crossbody or wallet on a string. Years ago I found some Dooney leather bags which have two rolled handles (my favorite type of handles) and are rather small to hold the necessary items. They are perfect, lightweight, attractive and I'm so happy to have them.

At the time, I was carrying larger purses and didn't appreciate how handy these smaller bags would become in my later years. Alas, I keep looking for similar items, but they are too large across the bottom. What's the deal with that?

Fortunately, the D&B bags are still like new and will outlive me. However, I'm always on the lookout for something new in exactly what you have described.

ETA: The leather key-keeper is especially important to me in these bags! I simply snap my keys in and know exactly where they are. Never have to fish around for them at the bottom of a purse! Genius.

I’m 63 and I am getting sick of carrying a purse and would love to go hands free. Not particularly fond of crossbody. I only carry a few credit cards, keys, phone and a few other things. Looking for a few ideas on a leather (not interested in cloth) smaller type of bag that is lightweight. I’ve tried the wallet on a string but that was not secure enough. Sling bag, small backpack, belt bag, wristlet?

QVC has plenty of smaller bags in leather with that longer strap you can use for cross body or remove if need be. If you can't find something on the Q, they probably haven't made what you are looking for yet.

@Meowingkitty I use a leather 2-zip wristlet from Coach that holds my keys, phone, credit cards, and loose change.

I keep the wristband on and hold the wallet in my hand. I don't let it swing around since I want to be safe and not leave it somewhere. If I'm running a bunch of errands or out shopping for the day, I use a crossbody.

I encourage you to use a cross body if you can. Dooney and Bourke have quite a few, but you can find leather ones at TJMaxx, or similar. I finally convinced my mother to use a cross body, as I felt she was an easy target to anyone who could come up behind her, push her to the ground, and steal her purse. Especially since she has white hair that is quite striking, and stands out in a crowd. I told her that a cross body is a much safer alternative for her vs. a broken bone or worse if someone wanted to steal her shoulder bag or tote.

Belt bags are also making a comeback and those are great for keeping your hands free and your items secure.

I like a hobo. I always get a light weight leather. It is big enough to carry what I need, but it doesn't overwhelm me either

I got a few belt bags this summer and I love them. Two are from Topshop and one is Madewell. I got them all from Nordstrom. They are so handy for shopping around town, getting a pedicure, running errands. Plus they look super cute and they were very affordable. There are a million on the market now you should take a look. They are very in style at the moment.

@Meowingkitty I was in TJX this past Friday and saw a lot of small in size bags by Patricia Nash. There were several that were done in the map print in crossbody, along with the kiss lock style that looks like a large change purse, but with a removable wristlet strap. There were several other of her bags as well, including a few florals in the smallest size. I chatted with a few ladies while we were looking them over, and we agreed the sizes and prices were really good. I have a few bags bought recently that are a similar size, which helped me resist THIS time! lol

Good luck in the search! Hope this helps. pinky
