Why Are My Notifications Numbers Going Down?

Yesterday I had 80+ Notifications. Now, I only have 47.

Why are my Notifications Numbers going down?

Is this another computer glitch?

I was just curious.

My guess - if threads get deleted, the notifications are as well.

I don't think a deleted thread affects notifications.

@ThinkingOutLoud is correct. Notifications disappear when a thread is deleted. The post you are being notified of is gone.

@Pearlee Yes, they disappear so you can't reference them but I've noticed the number doesn't change or maybe it's the post count that doesn't change. Yes, I believe it's the posts, you still get credit for a post you wrote on a deleted thread.

I think I've had at the most 16 in all the years I've been here. I click on notifications, scan them, see who mentioned me, look to see who it was, either I answer or just ignore.

I'm not here to be "right" which seems to be the trend lately.

@qbetzforreal The total post count does not change even when threads are deleted. You still get credit for it if you posted while it was still active.

@Kachina624 That's completely different from the notification number which does go down.

I have no idea what a "Notification " even is. Never noticed it and never looked for it.

@Johnnyeager You have never noticed "Notifications" at the top right of the board next to your user name? That gives a number or a zero indicating how many hearted posts you have or whether someone has mentioned you in a post? Hard to believe you've never seen that or known what it is. You are getting notified now that I am mentioning you in a post.

Settings Preferences (left margin) allows you to hide heart buttons and counts.

Pretty sure the notification counter also racks up a notification if someone @'s your nick, uses a quote with your nick already in it, or piggybacks on your post instead of using the red REPLY at the top left of the thread.
