Did you know that QVC is not a BBB accredited company?

I just checked and am quite surprised. They have a one star rating on customer reviews. I usually check small local companies, but have not bothered with large companies.

BBB carries no real authority over companies. Some companies value their ratings more than others...I think mostly smaller companies. Most people look at reviews and social media info like Angie’s List, etc when researching businesses now.

A company also had to pay to belong to the BBB. Many companies do not consider it worth their while.

I remember how the local BBB kept pressuring my boss to join their organization. He was not the least bit interested. It really doesn't mean much. Very few people pay any attention to it.

Yes, they are still prominent in the business world. To be accreditied:

Build trust

Advertise honestly

Tell the truth

Be transparent

Honor promishes

Be reponsive

Safeguard privacy

Embody integrity

I always check small local companies, but never thought to check out large. I'm just floored that QVC would not want to be accredited.

I don't think the fee is the thing that is holding them back? They are a large company and have money to spend on advertising, why not on their business profile?

I don't think it matters to the vast majority of shoppers, the old BBB rating doesn't mean anything now. I didn't know it still existed.

Very interesting. Never gave a thought about QVC and BBB but you know, I totally can understand that the QVC of today would not get a good rating from BBB.....QVC has horrible business practices and doesn't treat customers with respect.

A business's BBB "rating", is about as useful as a wet used tissue.

I couldn't care less whether QVC is a member of the BBB or not. I've dealt with them for about 30 years now and I feel I've always been treated well. Any problems (and there have been very few) have been dealt with fairly and to my satisfaction.

I've also known companies listed with the BBB that I wouldn't deal with no matter what their rating was. One of the companies that my DH and I, along with numerous friends, had the misfortune to deal with, have an A+ rating with BBB. What a joke; we lost a fair chunk of money with this company and they simply lied their way through at every step. Their TV advertising is also deceptive, but nothing is done about it.

That makes the BBB ratings worthless to me. It wouldn't even occur to me to bother to check.

@VegasBusinessWoman- Can you tell me the source of that information? I've been with Consumer Reports for at least as long as I've been a customer of QVC and never come across it, but I really would be interested. TIA.

Every single report I've read deals with products not companies. Taking issue with pricing policies is not a critique of a company as a whole, nor is it a recommendation to avoid a company.

@Marp- I've never heard of "Consumer Reports" rating companies either, but I'd certainly like to hear from @VegasBusinessWoman what is the source of her comment.

I get the CR magazine and also subscribe to the online version so, if we don't get an answer, I may shoot them an email and ask, just to clarify the issue.

It may be this poster is confusing "Consumer Reports" with a similar-sounding organization. I can't imagine CR having any opinion on QVC's "pricing policies". What has that got to do with the quality of a product?
