Help in the Forums

I want to abide by the community rules (of course) but I'm confused as to why an item I posted being removed.

The reason given was because it was a "link" to an outside website.

1) I've seen links to outside websites and want to know why I can't do so.

2) I inserted a photo of a product and I've seen this too, and wonder why I can't do so.

I am new to reading and replying to some posts and didn't know there were rules, so I Learned something from reading your question. I thought it was just people giving opinions about this and that! Rules?

Links to outside websites with anything for sale on them are not permitted. Even if your link is not to a particular item for sale, if *anything* is sold by clicking anywhere on the page the link goes to, it will be removed.

I understand what the OP is saying.

A store's name can be in a thread title or a percentage number indicating a sale at a site. Some may have pictures.

Some posts will stay up for days on end while others will be locked. We've all seen this. It doesn't seem uniform.

I realize this can be confusing because you see one thread where a link has been deleted by a moderator, yet you can go to another thread where a similar type of link has been there for hours, if not days. I'm guessing the moderators rely on people to hit the "report inappropriate" link for those types of posts. Since some remain for long periods of time, it doesn't appear that moderators are actively searching for "inappropriate" content, and they have stated they don't read every post. I've gotten to the point that it's almost like a little game to see how long such links remain before getting deleted. ☺️

Generally, it's okay to post pictures of items for sale at other websites--just not the link. An example would be the jewelry post about former QVC host Lisa Robertson's items for sale. You'll see photos of the jewelry and posts that mention the price. People will just say to look on Lisa's website or Facebook for details about how to order. Some posts even tell you that her website is her name plus dot com. Funny how QVC doesn't seem to mind all that, yet they don't want a direct link. IMO all the details given in the posts are essentially the same as sharing a link, so I don't really see why sharing a link is a big deal.

Also, the moderators tend to delete coupon codes for other retail websites, but they have allowed people to post that other retailers are having a sale. I've also seen info about where to find a code or coupon rather than a direct link to that info. Again, they just make it a little more time consuming to get the info, so it makes you wonder why they make such a big deal about it. In the end, it's their website, so they can do whatever they want.

Yes, I saw someone post photos of an Iman dress, pants etc. I too, posted about a Heidi Daus item (necklace) with a link to HSN and an actual picture of the item. It was deleted.

I do want to be treated fairly and I want to obey the forum rules. However, like you indicated, it is extremely confusing for me. Thank you for chiming in and explaining. I thought I had to be here a little longer or something (esteemed contributor) etc., LOL.

I read this. That's why I inquired. The same rules are not applied here throughout. Wanted to double check because I wasn't sure if it was my short time here.

I think there's a difference between a link and just giving the name of a company, but I never really cared enough to follow threads and find out. I stopped ever clicking on a link here in the forums about 5 or 6 years ago. Got a horrible virus and this was the only place I could imagine it might have come from!

Scammers use links because people are basically lazy and they click on a link when they wouldn't go to the trouble of finding the exact site name and typing it in as they should/could. And just the same, retallers know shoppers are lazy and like links. It's QVC's money paying for the forums --and they've decided they don't want to pay so we can easily shop elsewhere. I might not love it, but it makes sense to me.

Not saying anyone here now is a scammer - I just hate links and like that the mods try to get rid of them. I don't care so much about their reasoning.
