My post count doesn't change

Don't know how long this has been going on, because I've never paid much attention to my post count. But I noticed last night that the number isn't changing when I add a new post to the board. Checked back a week, and sure enough, same post count. Am I missing something here? Mods?

Ok, now I have to laugh. After a least a week of 1,986 posts - number never changing - the above post is 1,987. Weird!

ETA That post just changed to 1,988. I give up.

Edited again - And now it just jumped up again; must be catching up for all of those uncounted posts lol.

Nope, it really makes no difference, unless you're a 'newbie' with a low post count, in which case your every post will be dismissed (and sometimes insulted/ridiculed) for that reason alone.

SMH at that 'logic'......

I don't think it matters "how many hearts one gets", I think it's a way of saying that you agree with someone's post rather than fill the thread with "I agree" posts.

That's my take anyway and that's what I use them for.

Ha ha, it doesn't matter - I couldn't have told you how many posts I had prior to this. But last night I posted three times in a row on the same thread and noticed that the post count was the same on each. Seemed like each one should have been one # higher than the one before it. So I got curious and checked some of my posts from the week before, and they also had that same number on them. That seemed odd. Then I posted the question here to satisfy my curiosity. At that point, the post numbers immediately started to change, which was kind of funny! As far as I know, we don't get any prizes for our # of posts.

I know when you change the name you post under all of your previous posts are updated to the same name. That's why I would assume the number of posts would be updated, too.

Sometimes my post total changes when I reply to a post and sometimes it doesn’t. I cannot detect a pattern.

But if I start a thread, the count always goes up.

ETA: I checked and this count (1656) is the same as one of my last posts. So this response did not generate a change.

ETA: Interesting. My count went up by one here when I just posted on a different thread.

Your post count, even on very old posts, reflects what it is today. I don't believe there is a problem with it being up to date. It will increase every time you add a post.

@Anonymous I don't know what my post count was to begin with. I think it's always been working though. I think when you look up a post from a week ago that the number of posts is updated to the current number. I think that's the way it's always been. If you change the name you're posting with and go back to previous post, the name is updated. I think it would be the same with post #'s. I hope this makes sense.

Edited to say that Kachina624 said it best. In previous posts, the post count reflects what it is TODAY, not what it was at the time you posted.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. After reading @Kachina624's explanation, I realized that's what was confusing me. ALL of my posts had the same number, and I was thinking that they would be numbered sequentially. Thanks to @Kachina624 and @NickNack, I get it now! All is good.
