Recently I had my account hacked and someone made an unauthorized charge on my Qcard account. I did a search online and found someone else on the QVC forums who had the exact same thing happen to them.

It started with the email I use for the Qcard being added to a email bot. I received hundreds of emails saying I subscribed to newsletters etc. Then two days letter as I was deleting these emails to spam I found that a charge had been made to my QCard for something I DID NOT order.

By the time I got the email, this piece of work had already received the product. They were very "smart" to order it on expedited shipping. So, basically the email telling that "my" product shipped was basically just telling me it was delivered.

This all occured after I used the QVC app to place and order and then changed my mind to delete the order. Quite a coincidence... Yes, the CC company and QVC were alerted, the item taken off, but it still angers me that this happened. As in the other post, I hope better security measures are implemented to keep this from happening.

Was wondering if anyone else has run into this or had the same thing happen to them? I tried to post a reply on the thread where I read the same thing happened to the poster, but for some reason it was deleted.

I was lucky, I learned from that thread and from the police that those that commit credit card fraud will do the spam thing first believing that their crime will be covered up and the order will get lost in the shuffle of hundreds of emails. I was lucky to me monitoring my email pretty well in order to make sure I did not accidently delete something not meant for spam, but it still was not enough to prevent this from happening.

Just a warning to all, be alert! Had I not immediately thought something not right I may have received a bill for something I did not order.

You are correct, I am a newbie and never posted on the Forums, but after this incident I felt I should say something to make others aware. Take it or leave it, since someone else posted an almost exact incident and I could not add to their post I added my own.

If you look up another post called Unauthorized Purchase on My Qcard, you will see that it is similar. This is not the only post on this subject.

So, to address the items posted since it didn't make sense.

I never received an email saying that I placed an order for the fraudulently obtained item other than to tell me that the item shipped. The item was ordered on the 17th and they received on the 19th, the same day I received an email saying that "my order' shipped. It was apparently shipped UPS Red, UPS red is next day shipping according to the UPS site. If I could post the email and supporting documentation on here I would and then maybe it would make sense to someone...

As for the police, not sure how it is where you are, but this was looked at as stolen information and theft. I was told by the credit card people to make a police report and I did. Since internet crime is becoming more and more prevelent, the police department (at least where I am) can and will handle cases like this. It may not really go anywhere, as this is often a faceless crime, but the detective I was assigned has been very helpful and really looked into it.

He did explain to me that this particular incident was in conjuction with a 3rd party shipping scam. Basically, the thief has the item delivered to another address and that person thinking they are legitimately working as a 3rd party shipper then ships the package on. Then when they realize they are not geting paid, find they have been scammed. Google it, I did. I had to, as I had never heard of this and my first thought was it was fishy, I guess others don't.

Unless you use the App, I can tell you for a fact it does not ask for a security code. I used the app to make another purchase and then cancelled. That is when all this transpired. I just found it too much of a coincidence and yes, I did use a secure connection.

I really posted on here to make others aware. Many assumptions made. As someone who has been a part of forums, I guess when you are new and an "outsider" to the clique this happens.

Simply, be aware, take this post as helpful or not.

HillyBear, you are correct in having your local police involved it this investigation. It helps them determine if you are being truthful in your claim.

Something similar happen to me with another merchant, also not local. I was advised that I must file a police report so that my CC company could investigate and then reverse the charges. They did just that.

I am lucky to have a neighbor that works for our local PD and gave me the name of the detective to speak with concerning this crime. Also, my CC company asked if I wanted to have a new CC number to make sure the old number was useless to a fraudulent act.

Don't know if the Q does that, but you might want to ask, as MC, Visa and AMEX do.

Let me say that if the purchase was made by a "call in" it could have been a simple error. Having been a GTE long distance operator for many years, let me assure you that many "fours and oooo's" sound alike and so do "fives and nines" if the person is not speaking clearly.

If I had stolen your card number and risked getting caught, I would not have made just one purchase, I would have made it worth the risk!

SUpposedly when these 3 digits security codes were put on the back of credit cards it was to add a additional security layer to prevent a non-authorized person from using the card. IF a web retailer does not require the code when placing a order then what good does it do to have one. Now retailers can choose to request the security code or not but I do find it strange that the code is not required by QVC when placing a order using THEIR OWN CREDIT CARD. MAkes no sense whatsoever.

THere have been multiple postings on these forums from people who had fraudulent purchases on their credit cards. WHen they called to,report the fraudulent purchase to the credit card company they were told that they had to send a police report, with the paperwork they submitted disputing the charge. SO the police do get involved as you must fill out a police report.
