What is wrong with old?

Lori Griener was presenting reading glasses and made the statement. You don,t want to look old, or OLD SCHOOL, these are cute and young, My mind is young and I'm, in good shape and aging gracefully, (81). Is it a sin today to get old,? No respect. Tell your vendors to watch their words.

Getting older is better than the alternative that the younger are reaching quicker today unfortunately.

I,m getting tired of no respect for older folks.

I'm surprised at your age you are still super sensitive about it.

I'm only 64 and got over it years ago. Yes, we are stereotyped but I like being under estimated.

Not sensitive, I,m a tough old bird, just getting tired of disrespect. I respect myself and people young or mature. Want the same consideration for everyone.

I don,t buy from her or the Q much, but was on the Treadmill doi ng my FIVE MILES and watching. Now I will get on the bike for another Five miles and off to the gym for weight training class. NO JOKE.

The worst part is, IMO those reading glasses she was presenting look very old fashioned or old school or whatever she wants to call them.

I have to wear reading glasses and I wouldn't buy those and wouldn't wear them if she gave them to me for free.

Oh definitely it is age discrimination. Today being OLD or looking OLD is so against society's values of worth. It is all bull, but, the public falls for it hook line and sinker.

I'm 76 yrs young -- and very youthful. I never watch Lori pitch her products because I know I wouldn't be interested in any of them. She's the face of products --- and it's her job to sell, sell, sell.

About reading glasses!!!! I would NEVER buy reading glasses off a rack. I know it magnifies, but I would go to an optometrist and get ground lenses. Even non-prescription lenses should be "ground". Plus - most people need a prescription - not cheap plastic lenses - which are bad for ur eyes. I've been wearing glasses since I was 6 years old --- and reading glasses (over my contacts) for 33 years.

I just watched Lori's presentation on-line --- and she should NOT be advising people which reading power they need. I'm surprised she's allowed to do that. To me, it's against the law - especially pitching it on tv. It's like someone wearing the wrong eye glass prescription. One size DOES NOT fit all. Crazy!!!

When she says "u don't want to look old" - that's a sales technique. America is about youth!!!!!

"Old" is experience and wisdom and I realized that as a young child.

I think the speaker was referring to being "fresh and updated".

So if there's nothing wrong with old - why talk only about someone trying to run a business?

The forums are packed with so many OLD insults that if I believed the posters I wouldn't be buying much of anything. Count them sometimes - Those shoes are UGLEEEE - something an OLD lady would wear.

No one under 75 should wear that dress - it's old and matronly.

And on and on and on. Sorry, but I'm old although a few years under that 81 and no, old does not sell to anyone I know. I have yet to hear anyone at all say - I'll buy those glasses because they'll make me look old; in fact, one of the responses disparages Lori's glasses how? - By saying they look old!!!!

Looking old must be the kiss of death - how else do you explain the billions of dollars spent on anti-aging beauty products. Are those products going to people who want to look old? I don't think so!

I'm 75 and the age thing doesn't bother me. I find it humorous that a vendor will think that's a selling point!

At 75, "looking fresh" is not a high priority. Well groomed? Yes. Fresh????? I think the phrase is hysterically funny.

I "vote with my dollars" for many reasons. There are several QVC vendors I absolutely will not support.

I noticed LG's use of the term "old" and thought it was a poor choice of words. After all, it is not something she is selling to "spring chickens".

Most people aged 43 and younger do not need reading glasses! The show host did not need to point out the fact she did not need readers either! We can figure this out based on your age.

Interesting topic. I am very active as is my husband. We dance 6 times a week somewhere, either square dancing or round dancing which is choreographed ballroom. With that said we have lots of friends about our age which is in the "early" seventies for me and early 80's for my hubby. With that said you can only imagine what people automatically think about us and our friends. The latest bit of fun was a young physicians assistant otherwise nice who told me I WAS OLD AND WOULD NOT RECOVER WELL FROM MY INJURY... (CRUISE SHIP- FALL OVER MY HUSBAND ON THE DANCE FLOOR ----floor was sticky and boat was moving and rocking. Not my balance and that evening there were many incidents. And one more, at a grocery store check out I remarked how heavy a really large watermellon was and the cashier said "old people should not try to carry watermellons!" Now it does not take much imagination for you to know what I wanted to do with that watermellon!

I taught school for over 30 years and I can tell you with complete honesty I AM TWELVE, NEVER WENT PAST THAT AGE and I plan to stay that way.

Agreed. It's the one discrimination that is still accepted by our society.

Actually I really like being old. Granted being young was good, too, but then I've liked pretty much every age. I am happy and proud to say that next Sunday, August 6th, I will celebrate my birthday for the 83rd time. Wish you could be here to see that I am neither senile nor immobile. Being older gives you many privileges. I love my white hair and I love my great grandchildren who love to play with it. Life's good - really it is. Hope you make it too.

Someone above said that they were told at the grocery that old people shouldn't pick up watermelons. I had someone tell me the same thing about a package of bottled water. I thanked him for his youthful advice and told him that when I am old I will remember not to lift bottled water. So there!

Remember "Don't trust anyone over 30" - I was just over 30 when my high school students took that as their mantra. That was in the early 1970's and only a few kids stood up for us "old" guys!
