JUNE 2026 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

this is the year of reading books I thought I would never read, I just finished "the Fourth Wing" a truly great "romantacy."

"It is the first book in the Empyrean series,^[1] following the journey of Violet Sorrengail, who is forced by her mother, General Sorrengail, to join the Basgiath War College and become a dragon rider in the kingdom of Navarre."

this would've been my last choice but it's been on the New York Times best seller list for so long, I've now finished all three books in the Series and it was fantastic.

my last book before, was "Project Hail Mary." Another fabulous read, sy-fy that I couldn't imagine liking. But the movie just came out with Ryan Gosling as the lead with great reviews.

Highly unusual month: no books but the cleanest house ! And now, the summer yard has all the seasonal decor spray painted and out:

It seems Cloud Library has all new books but the dreaded sign on each: COMING SOON.

At least I can enjoy inside and outside my house !

Northwoods, by Amy Pease. It's a mystery based in tourist town in rural Wisconsin. The opioid crisis has hit even this peaceful area. What amazes me is how her writing drew me in - I felt like I was sitting in a cabin on a lake while all the excitement was happening around me. Considering this is her first novel, I was completely taken in. Will keep an eye out for another book by her.

"The Butcher's Daughter" by Corinne Leigh Clark and David Demchuk.

London 1887: in an abandoned apartment the London police find a dossier containing correspondence between journalist Emily Gibson and who she believes is Margery Lovett accomplice to Sweeney Todd "the demon barber of Fleet Street." The letters tell the story of Mrs. Lovett and how she came to know Sweeney Todd. The novel is dark and graphic with vivid descriptions of Victorian London. The characterization is very good; the reader is transported back in time and gets to know what life was like for many.

Not light reading but interesting. Could be classified as gothic horror.

I have been out of a reading mood for the past month, struggling to read, but I did pick up and started Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier, its a murder mystery-so far its pretty good!

Thank you...my colors haven't changed: rust, yellow and green. Most folks say my places are warm, welcoming and comfortable.

As I have gotten older, I downsized outside decor a lot. Lucky were the folks who drove by and picked up things that made them happy ! A few well-chosen things make all the difference and a lot less to carry in and out as the season changes !

Andy Weir wrote Project Hail Mary, and he also wrote "the Martian," also a movie, staring Matt Damon.

Two books I absolutely never thought I would read and they were both great. Sometimes the wait is so hopelessly long at my library I break down and buy a book especially if it's been out for a long time. I can be very surprised as how cheap they are. If you are into Audiobooks, Project Hail Mary was a fantastic audiobook.

Hope Rises, by David Baldacci. Book 2 with Walter Nash still working under the alias of Dillon Hope an FBI informant. Nash is determined to murder the Japanese woman who killed his daughter and bring down her billion dollar drug business and her main goal, flood the USA in drugs and kill Americans.

I just finished Where Are You Now by Jenny Hale . Very mild and thought provoking in a good way.

Then I love the series by Hope Holloway and Cecelia Scott called Destin Diaries. There are 7 total. Last one comes out in July. Just finished the latest one this morning. Again, very mild but is kind of "religiony" ( which I am fine with).

Earlier this week I finished The Divorce by Freida McFadden which is not mild but a fun read

I just finished Stuart Woods' Deep Water by Brett Battles. It was published yesterday, number 67 of 67 in the Stone Barrington series. I really liked this one. It was fast-paced, full of action, and had some good recurring characters. And there was NO gratuitous s*x! Maybe Stone is changing his ways. Most of it was set in New York City, with quick trips to England, Maine, and Key West. I recommend it.

I always have a few library books lined up to read. We can keep them for up to 8 weeks unless they're a new release or someone else has a hold on them.

I just checked this one, and I'm #32 out of 76 people waiting, and there are 41 copies in the system. Definitely a popular book!

I just finished reading She can Scream by Melinda Leigh. i really enjoyed the first two books in this series, that can definitely be read as stand alone books. This one was a bore, at somepoint this week it occurred to me that I had been reading this book for a few weeks and not making much progress. I ended up skimming the last quarter of the book. I definitely would not recommend.

I read I Must Say by Martin Short which was his autobiography written 12 years ago.

I then read Unearthed The Smithsonian National Gem Gallery by Jeffrey Edward Post. It was about how the museum acquired many of it's famous pieces. To be honest I read it mainly for the pictures.

Finally I read The Best Dog in the World by Alice Hoffman which was an anthology of essays about authors and their dogs. Of course the ones that talk about losing their dogs will bring tears to the hardest hearts. It really made me miss all the pets I've loved and lost but I was also thankful for the years that I had with them.
