DECEMBER 2025 READ ANY GOOD BOOKS LATELY?

I am almost finished with Robert Galbraith's The Hallmarked Man. I like it better than her last two, but that woman definitely needs an editor. It's the ususal 900 pages; too many characters. A lot of tension, and movement, in the Strike/Robin relationship, which keeps it moving.

Finally finished The Ferryman by Justin Cronin late last night. Wow that story stays with you. Very disquieting. I don't usually do science fiction, but sure recommend this book.

Before that I read Last Man Standing by David Baldacci. He is always good for a quick read.

Then I reread Conclave by Robert Morris. Not quite as good as I remembered it, but still a remarkable process.

This weekend I read At Midnight Comes the Cry, the latest book in the Clare Fergusson/Russ Van Alstine mystery series by Julia Spencer-Fleming. This is one of my favorite series of all time. The main characters are an Episcopal priest and the police chief (now retired). The story starts with a holiday parade crashed by white supremacists and becomes a murder mystery. There is a domestic violence sub-plot in case that's a touchy subject. I recommend this book, although it isn't the best of the series, it's good.

At Midnight Comes the Cry sounds interesting. I am always looking for new book series, but I have to start each one from the very beginning. I have added In the Bleak Midwinter to my TBR list.

I just finished James by Percival Everette. What a fantastic book. It's very hard to describe. It's written from perspective of Jim the enslaved man of Huckleberry Finn. It's tragic, enraging,with some biting humor along the way. It's a great read.

My other best-series-ever is the Wind River Mysteries by Margaret Coel. I am such a sucker for a good series!

Finished Til Death Do Us Part by Daniel Hurst-it was really good and the ending made the book!!!

I plan to read more by this author for sure!

I thought it was going to take me forever to read Windy City Blues by Renee Rosen. It took me only 4 days which is normal for me. It was almost 500 pages. I enjoyed it though.

I mentioned this in another thread. I just read Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson. It's about a 26 year old woman who gets attacked with a hammer and is left with a serious brain injury. She is given the choice for a very risky surgery (10% chance of success) or she will have an aneurysm in 7 days. She oppts for the 2nd choice to use the time to find her would be killer. A little out the ordinary.

Nicola Harrison's The Island Club was a good women's fiction book set in 1956 in FL about 3 women living in the same small town and their lives.

I was trying to post this yesterday when I finished but I kept getting a error to get into the forums. No idea what's going on but it's happening more and more lately. Anyone else? Not sure if QVC was working on the fourms or what. The website always works.

I finished The Loyal Wife, by Natalie Barelli, it was a pretty good read, although I really didn't care for any of the characters, and I felt it could have been wrapped up sooner....... I like Natalie's books, but this one was just ok.

I am now reading The Broken Vows by Daniel Hurst, starts off really good!!!!!

I read The Breakdown a thriller by B.A.Paris.

Christmas on the Island by Jenny Colgan.

Moonlight Over Manhattan by Sarah Morgan which was a romance between a dog walker and a doctor.

One Big Happy Family by Susan Mallery- a family get together over the Christmas holidays grows bigger with the addition of several unexpected guests.

I just finished We Are All Guilty Here by Karin Slaughter. I like police procedurals but this one was so slow, probably because there was so much emphasis on the family drama. This is my first book by Karin Slaughter, and if this book is typical, she is just not for me. I'm clearly in the minority as this book is rated 4.25 stars on Goodreads.

I read all her books and sometimes I do wonder why they can be frightening. The above book was one of my favorites and I flew through it. I told my local librarians if Karin and Stephen King ever collaborated together I would be awake for a month.
