MICHAEL CONNELLY'S MYSTERY SERIES

Someone's offhand comment led me to this author's Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch series, and I'm liking it. I'm just finishing book 2 (of 6 in the series) and have ordered a couple more.

I checked Fantastic Fiction for other Connelly series and found Harry Bosch, Jack McEvoy, Terry McCaleb, and Lincoln Lawyer.

If you've read all or part of these series, can you tell me a smidge about who the characters are and/or what the series is about?

I read the entire Harry Bosch series and Lincoln Lawyer. I loved all of them. But, there is too much to tell about the series. You should go to the Goodreads web page and look them up. It gives complete details and reviews. I hope you enjoy them.

@Tinkrbl44 Definitely start with the Harry Bosch series. And if you can, read them in order. You get the character development and a sense of how Harry evolves into the cop he becomes. It's an excellent series and I believe it's John Connelly's first character. The first book was written in the 80's, I think. My dad turned me onto the author and I was hooked after I read the first book. I've read the whole series so far. If you subscribe to Amazon Prime, the tv series is on Prime. It's also very well done. Each season is based on one of the books. But the book is always better. LOL

The quickest and easiest way to " test drive "his and other authors' books is by using an online ebook library.

i downloaded Cloud Library several years ago and that's the source for all my reads. Saves time, money and space.

Don't worry if you can't read each book in sequence, esp. in the Harry Bosch lineup. The core cast of characters remains the same. The character development stays true. The worst drawback: you may already know that the character is gone forever and how.

Huh. Good suggestion .... do you usually read those books on a cell phone, or other device?

I read in bed every night before turning off the light. Not sure I want a device involved, as opposed to a hardcover or paperback book.

I have been reading all my books on my iPad for the last 8 or so years...never thought I would enjoy it but boy was I wrong. It remembers the page I last read and as soon as I open the icon, there it is.

Also I love the ease I can question a word or phrase that I don't recognize. There are many more unique options but the two I noted are most important to me.

Changing the font or background light adds to the ease. Your provider normally gives 14 days to read a book. You can reserve an existing book or save it for later, even put a book "coming soon" on hold.

To make reading in bed easier, there is a multi-positional iablet pillow you can buy....about $15-20 dollars. I use mine on a lap tray during the daytime.

If I am waiting in the car for DH to grocery shop, I can access the correct page to pick up from my iPad which is at home. ( Both my iPad and cell are Apple products .)

You can discern if a book is audio at a glance. I listened to an audio book only once on a set of CD's someone lent us during a two-day drive to FL. I prefer reading.

If you go to the APP store, at the end are icons for related apps that have unique offerings.

I found I read more books once I went online...so much so that I started a database by Authors in alphabetical order and then within each author dedicated 3 columns for alphabetical listing of the books I read by that author. I finally created a 4th column: Never Again for ones I disliked.

I used to go to a paperback exchange center and would be really upset when I started reading a "new" book only to find after a few paragraphs or pages that I had already read the book. The center eventually closed: There were so many leaning towers of books that any sudden turn could result in an avalanche !

A few months ago I noticed DH reading articles and our local newspaper online. He may never " convert " but that's ok: he is reading !

It's way too much detail to try and give you a quick snapshot. I’d actually recommend checking out either Goodreads or Fantastic Fiction—they give great summaries for each book.

The Harry Bosch series starts with Harry as a Vietnam War vet, but in the TV show, they updated him to be a Gulf War veteran. That change bugged some fans of the original books for some reason.

The Lincoln Lawyer series is about Mickey Haller. He and Bosch are half-brothers, though they didn’t grow up together. I really enjoy both the book series and the Netflix adaptation.

Bosch streams on Amazon Prime, while The Lincoln Lawyer is on Netflix. Each season usually covers two books.

I’ve also read the Ballard books. I honestly can’t remember whether the first season based on those aired on Amazon or Netflix, but it was a solid adaptation either way.

If I had to rank what I’ve enjoyed most: for the books, I’d probably go with Ballard or Haller. But if we’re talking TV, then Bosch is the standout. It’s a great show—Titus Welliver nails the role.
