Do you keep track of the books you've already read?

Reading addict here. I now use Goodreads to keep track of what books I've already read (before that, I kept track of them on "my reading history" in my library's web site. That was problematic, as I'd have to go back through pages of old listings. I've tried to log in some of the more common authors that I've read on Goodreads, but that seems too time consuming, as for some authors, I've read everything that they've written. A lot of my library patrons who are old-school keep track in a notebook (ha). This all started when I would find a book on the shelf, read the jacket, was drawn in, checked it out, started reading only to figure out in about 5 pages that I'd read it already. Just wondered how some of you prolific readers keep track of things. Thanks for any & all responses.--J

I've read thousands of books in the past 20 years alone. Keeping track never occurred to me. What would be the point anyway? I always read a 15-20 pages of book before I purchase it and if I have read it before, it comes back to me. I might not remember everything about the book but I remember that I already ready it. I know some people enjoy re-reading favorite books but I'm not one of those people. I get no pleasure out of re-reading books.

It does happen from time to time that I start to read a book & realize that I have already read that one. Not a big deal when I got it at the library, but I hate when I buy a book that I have already read! So many books now are trilogy or series & those make it a little easier. I do have to put stickers on them & number them, so I know which one to read next & then I have a list of which ones that I need to buy or borrow next.

Sometimes I wish I had started a list of every book I had ever read, back when I was a kid. Not to keep track, per se, but I think it would be fun to see what I was reading when I was 10, or 20, or 50.

I have a small address book I have kept for years, filed by using authors last name . I keep a running list of books that I'd like to read in the back written in pencil so it can be erased once I read it. Also have those books listed under notes in my phone, especially helpful when I'm just running into the library. Happy Reading!

Yes I do...now. Since 2009 when I jointed librarything.com, I log in all my books making note of the year read and my 1-5 Star rating. Prior to 2009 I never did keep track. I went by memory with help from reading other librarything member logs and added books from past decades. I could only come up with just under a thousand or so previous titles.

Since 2009, it's so easy. According to my log there, I've read 587 books since joining. I love librarything.com. One of the best things about librarything.com as compared to other sites, is there are no ads or pop ups. It is not affiliated with amazon or any other book seller. I get recommendations based on books I've read and also based on other members lists who have read the same books and authors as me.

I started to use Goodreads to track my books a couple years ago. I really like it! It has helped me keep track of where I am in a series since I often need to take a break from 1 series to try a different series.

I have found some really good new-to-me series due to the recommendations Goodreads gives me.

I read about 50 books a year. Reading to me is the equivalent of going on the ultimate get-away vacation. Keeping track just isn't an option for me; career demands & of course, my family. My love for the experience of reading makes me a living-in-the-moment for what that novel depicted. Then, I move on to my next choice which happens to be first time authors. Lilac Girls is an example of that. Reading cannot become a chore for me. I am extremely impressed for those of you who can keep track!

Goodreads now and Shelfari before they merged w/Goodreads. Wish I found Goodreads first since I love the Giveaways and have won at least 7 books since I joined in March. It's a much better system than Shelfari was too.

Yes, I keep a list on my computer, and I give each book a grade, as though I were a teacher. I will not read more books by an author that receives a poor grade.

I do. I sort by author and keep my list on my Apple things. Add it to one and it syncs with the others. I read 2-3 books a week and sometimes I see a book that looks good and I have to check because I probably read it.

They look like this:

A-B AUTHORS

C-D AUTHORS

E-F AUTHORS

ETC.....
