I treated myself at Costco today and picked up The Housemaid Is Watching. I really liked the first two. May start it tonite. Freida (the author) has a twisted mind.

I recently read " Blue Sisters,by Coco Mellors. It is a story about 3 sisters returning to NY.C after the death of a fourth sister. It is about what it takes to keep living after loss and addiction. It has a good an realistic ending and was a satisfying read.

I just picked up Killing the Witches by Bill O'Reilly. It's all about the Salem witch trials, I live in RI so not too far from Salem, just seems fitting this time of year! I've read many of the Killing series and they are excellent books if anyone is interested.

I just finished The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. I had stopped and started this book for the last 6 months. There are a lot of characters with complex (I thought) stories. A third into it, it caught me and I couldn't stop.

The writing is beautiful. The insight into customs, traditions, intergenerational trauma, told from the perspective of Malayalam people in India and the Europeans there during India's colonization is fascinating. I loved everything about this book and it has really sparked an interest in learning more about the country! I will definitely read Cutting for Stone, another book by this author.

The Hitchcock Hotel by Stephanie Wrobel is one of those books where college friends meet in an unusual setting, and disturbing things happen. I don't seek out new releases, but the title had me grabbing it off the shelf.

Just finished The New Couple in Apartment 5b....It was very good, reminded me a lot in the beginning of Rosemary's Baby..It held my interest and kept me guessing and trying to figure it all out....

I am now starting The Secret Daughter, by Kelly Rimmer.....

Today I finished Spirit Crossing by William Kent Krueger. This is a new book in the Cork O'Connor series. I really liked this book and recommend it highly. The entire series is excellent. The mystery in this book involves missing and endangered Native American girls and young women. I appreciate how the author weaves lessons about culture in with the mystery plot.

I finished listening toTHE SMALL AND THE MIGHTY by Sharon McMahon (sharonsaysso on Instagram). I've been following Sharon since 2020 and have been in all of her book clubs since she started the private groups. This is one of my favorite places on the interwebs, so I am very biased. However, this thread is another one of my happy places, so I also want to be critical for you. The book tells various stories about 12 Americans - many woven together - of how one person was able to effect huge, positive change. My critique (really for many of the products she puts out) is that she likes to include a lot of background and sometimes I just want to focus on the main point. Also, as I was listening, there were a few places where she referred to a prior subject and it made me have to rewind to make sure I was hearing correctly (maybe makes more sense in book form.) I'm going to assume your library will have a long wait list for this one! Recommended if you want to read true stories that will leave you feeling hopeful.

I traveled to DC to see her this past weekend. She's known as "America's Government Teacher", so seemed like the ideal place to see her and sightsee. Edited to add - this was funny...her merch line was insane. The theater had a huge lobby and it wound all around the room. Everyone was in the merch line. Nobody was at the bar. (Ok - I was at the bar. I don't need merch!)

because I was traveling, that gave me the chance to play "what's on my Kindle?) It was Freida McFadden's short story THE WIDOW'S HUSBAND'S SECRET LIE . It was silly and ridiculous, and I'd like to think it was meant to be. ☺️

I just finished Ask Not by Maureen Callahan, a novel about the Kennedy's with a focus on the women. Not a very flattering portrayal of how the men treated the females in the family and the women in their lives. While many books have revealed this as a side story, that is the focus of this book.

@icezeus It was very nice. Another follower planned some events around the weekend (DC tours and a reception at a nearby hotel.) It's amazing to see what she built in a short amount of time. Found out last night that the book just opened #1 on the NY Times bestseller list for nonfiction.

It did the same to me when I read it. After I finished I read her acknowledgment page and she stated yes it was based on that and why. It as been a few months since I read it so I cannot remember what else she wrote about the two books. I enjoyed it as well.

When it rains, it pours as two hot off the press holds came through this week.

Den of Iniquity (J.P. Beaumont, #26) by J.A. Jance. My almost 40 year love affair with reading Jance's former Seattle homicide cop continued.

Tell Me Everything (Amgash, #5) by Elizabeth Strout. Olive Kitteridge and her razor sharp tongue kept me in this one.

At the Wolf's Table by Rosella Postorino. Historical fiction based on the true story of women conscripted to be Adolph Hilter's food tasters.

Jackie Zack's The Teacup Conspiracy was an interesting book. At first I thought it was a cozy mystery. Definitely not. It kept me guessing of whodunit and and it was a little Christian for me but not over the top. Overall, a good fast read that I read in two days.

ETA, I returned the book to Costco unread this morning. Decided I can't take how twisted and bloody her books became. It may be a phase I'm going through...

While I generally read mystery series, I just finished an excellent stand-alone.

This is the first novel co-authored by James Patterson and Howard Roughan.

It's TRUTH OR DIE ...... and when I finished it, I went back and re-read the last dozen chapters.

I'm pretty good at guessing outcomes, but this one kept me dizzy with the twists and turns.

The library has my next Howard Roughan book ready, so I'll get it tomorrow.

I PTB on A Murder in the Neighbourhood, Spencer Guerrero. Just could not get into it.
