I just finished reading Becoming Madame Secretary by Stephanie Dray. It is about Frances Perkins, the first woman Cabinet member as Secretary of Labor. We have her to thank for Social Security. It was a very interesting read. Highly recommended.

I have tried to read Finding Margaret Fuller and also The Princess of LasVegas but couldn't get into either of them and they are going back to the library unread.

I have started to read In Sunshine and in Shadow by Rhys Bowen in the Molly Murphy series. This series has always been a favorite of mine and hopefully will remain so.

This is the first book Rhys has co-written with her daughter such as Jonathan Kellerman with his son and Lee Child with his son. Although both of them are favorites I do not like the Kellerman duo at all and have only read one of the Child duo; not as good as just Lee Child. I have the 2nd Child duo on reserve and we will see.

I read The Butterfly Sisters by Jenny Hale which was a story about a mother who asks her two daughters to meet at their grandmother's lake house to learn who inherited the house and what will become of it. There was mending family differences and some light romance.

I also read The Nine Lives of Bianca Moon by Delas Heras. This was a murder mystery where all the characters were cats or dogs. A dog reporter was murdered and his cat fiance decides to try and track down the murderer herself. It was an interesting premise for a book. I'm not sure if it was totally successful.

Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in one tumultuous moment.

In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Margaret must figure out how to move forward on her own terms while facing long-held family secrets, devastating heartbreak, and the idea that love might find her in the last place she would ever expect."

I've been listening to Hope Holloway's, Seven Sisters series, book 2-4. Light, romance/family stories. Easy listening/reading.

Kerk Murray's, Since The Day We Danced, is the book I'm currently reading. He's a new author to me. I'm enjoying the book.

"Emma Wright’s world came crashing down when her husband blindsided her with divorce papers on their anniversary and left her for a younger woman. Starting over at forty, she moves into a quaint beachfront cottage on the other side of Hadley Cove with her beloved rescue dog, Riley. But just as she’s picking up the shattered pieces to her life, Riley goes missing.

Meanwhile, in Chicago, widowed father Luke Grayson vows to repair the strained relationship with his teenage son, Jeremiah. In search of new beginnings, he moves them to the picturesque small coastal town of Hadley Cove, Georgia. While they're getting settled, an unexpected visitor arrives at their doorstops, and seems to believe this is his home.

As destiny weaves Emma and Luke’s paths together in unforeseen ways, their lives will change forever."

I downloaded the following as the next books on my tbr list.

Notes From the Cove, Jennifer Bardsley

Aunt Violet's Locket, Kristin Harper

The Liars, Joanne DeMaio

beckyb1012

I read this book several months ago. Thought is was about average, but I have to admit I did not know much about Marjorie Merriweather Post . Seems she really tried to be a good partner in her marriages, but her husbands were cads. I remember seeing Dina Merrill in a lot of movies. She was a popular character actress, very pretty.

I just finished reading SPLINTERS a memoir by Leslie Jamison (?). Got good reviews, but I didn't really care for it. Too dark. She writes of her broken relationships and her love for her child, but she drags this poor baby all over the country in order to fulfill her literary obligations. Her life just sounds too fractured.

Just started this morning reading AFTER ANNIE by Anna Quindlen about a wife and mother who dies suddenly and the effects it has on her four young children and her husband. I really like Anna Quindlen, she writes with a lot of heart and her characters are always so interesting. I expect I will like this book, too.

Reading "Everyone Here is Lying" by Shari Lapena.

William Wooler is a respected doctor in the small town of Stanhope, but has kept an affair secret from his wife and children.

Then William's lover, breaks up with him. William is devastated and drives home hoping to be alone with his thoughts. His 9 year old daughter, Avery,is home by herself when he arrives. She gives William a diffcult time and he loses his temper, leaving the house. Hours later, the family reports Avery missing.

This is a very good book. Everyone is hiding something and keeping secrets, hardly any of the characters can be trusted. Just when I think I figured something out, the book takes another twist. I've read all of Lapena's books and this is one of her best.

I read The Square of Sevens by Laura Shepherd Robinson. The description on Amazon is:

Cornwall 1730: A young girl known only as Red travels with her father making a living predicting fortunes using the ancient Cornish method of the Square of Sevens. This book is quite a saga, over 500 pages, and I was engaged throughout. Reminded me of Dickens but a much easier read.
