WHO PRINTS BOOK EXCERPTS?

Maybe I'm a little brain dead from all the holiday and tax stuff over the past few days.

Maybe someone changed their policy ... so I'm asking the literary experts here ...

I wanted to read the first chapter (or first few pages) of a book whose author I am unfamiliar with. Just to see the writing style.

I "thought" Amazon had book excerpts you could click on and read, but this didn't have that. So ... off the top of your head, what retailer does have book excerpts with their book ads? I am drawing a blank with this one.

@Tinkrbl44 I have a Kindle Paper White and I often just get a sample of a book. I know what you are talking about and I used to be able to see excerpts from many books and often do when looking for a Kindle book.

@Tinkrbl44 It's very hit and miss. Just for the heck of it I went to Amazon and just chose "Books" and looked at a few titles. Out of 5, only 2 had the "look inside" feature which is what you are referring to. Some have this feature, some don't.

@Tinkrbl44 @Amazon does have excerpts. You have to go to the site, find the bookm then look for the picture of the book. There's a little spot you touch that lets you open the book and it says "See inside."

I haven't bought a book ( paperbacks used to come from an exchange that has since closed with COVID ) but I read quite a lot.

I am using ebooks from Cloud Library app which is free through my local library ( taxes paid enable me to get a free library card. The app is well organized by distinct categories and as you scroll through the book covers you can access the overview. Then click on the one you want to read.

It may be necessary to put a Hold or Save if it's a recent publication. Or, you can proceed to your bookseller.

If a book is self-published, the author/self-publisher has a lot of control over how it's presented. I tend to make my books as available as possible, but some don't. It's up to the author on some platforms and the provider on others. The self-publisher also has the power to make it lendable or not.

For a great many books on Amazon they will have the "Look Inside" icon over to your left to view several pages of a book. Some pages may be missing but usually enough to know if you may be interested in the book. I am not sure how long a book has been released before Amazon does this.

A paperwhite and a library card app will solve this problem.

Either my attention span is fading or I get bored easy, but every download session had some duds to delete.

@Tinkrbl44 .....Amazon does have samples you can read. Once in a while I come across one that does have the option.
