anyone read the gentleman from moscow...i get varied opinions

Its a tuf read

Totally engrossing

cant decide to invest time in this book

@ProudMa - I enjoyed the book. It's been awhlie since I read it. I got it from the library so no cash outlay. :-) I usually read mysteries and thrillers so this was a little different for me. I read numerous Russian novels in college as part of the curriculum for my major so I enjoyed the Moscow living/social aspects of the book. So, I am in the give it a try camp.

It's ok. Pretty good story. Writing is average. Main problem for me is that it is WAY too long. Could have cut about 30% of it and not missed a thing -- would have benefitted from it. Was a bit of a slog to finish in that regard.

" A Gentleman from Moscow" is an excellent book. It was so interesting that I didn't notice the length.

It was my favorite book of the year when it came out and I’ve bought the book for others to read. Haven’t really seen many negative reviews at all, but do see @JanetsGirl ‘s point about the length and dragging a bit.

I also loved that read. I read a lot of mysteries and psychological thrillers and family sagas, so A Gentleman in Moscow was a pleasant change of pace for me. Maybe a tad too long, but I thought the writing was excellent.

Yes! In answer to Smoky, the ending took me by surprise but very much in character with the 'Gentleman.'
