White Chrysanthemum by MARY LYNN BRACHT is another book along the same lines as Lisa Sees's book.

“The Island of Sea Women” by Lisa See. Historical fiction account of two “haenyeo”, female divers on the Korean island of Jesus. It is a fictionalized account of 2 young girls who begin diving as young girls, though they come from different backgrounds. I did not realize how much actual history was included, such as the Japanese occupation and times during the Korean War (that section almost did me in when I saw what they endured). Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

I recently read "Island of the Sea Women" too and enjoyed it. I also learned a lot as I do from all Lisa See's books. She does a very thorough job of researching what she is writing about. I highly recommend any of her books.
