ANYONE HAVE A RESOURCE FOR ...

Anyone have a resource for when hardcover books are scheduled to come out in paperback?

I like to lie down when I read and hardcover books are just too annoying to "balance". It's a lot easier to read paperbacks lying down, so this is the reason for my question. TIA!

The rule of thumb used to be twelve months, but as the hard/soft model grew (in which the same publisher publishes a title first in hardcover and then in paperback, versus licensing the paperback rights), that time has often been extended. Now it can take far longer than a year and in some cases years, especially if the hardcover continues to sell. Both COLD MOUNTAIN and THE DA VINCI CODE took, I believe, over two years and perhaps longer before the paperback came out. Professional and academic titles often only have hardcover editions, because the marketplace will support their continued sale in that format. Most commercial fiction and nonfiction does, eventually, get a paperback edition, but not all, as sometimes the sales of the hardcover are so poor that it just seems like throwing good money after bad to publish the paperback.

Bookseller.com Newsletter is a weekly newsletter that was mentioned previously on this site. It's very informative giving info on new books, books soon to be published, books in paperback and audio books. It comes every Friday and really gives a lot of information.

Thanks to the person who mentioned it earlier.

@Tinkrbl44, after a book has been out (for how long, varies) Amazon tells you. You go to the hardcover and click on the paperback and once publication date has been nailed down, it will say when it's coming out.

For example, if you go to Amazon now and go to "Killers of the Flower Moon," clicking on "paperback" tells you it will be released April 3rd.

If you go to Bookreporter.com you should be able to get to the site. At the bottom of the newsletter that appears there there is a section called newsletters. If you click on the first one, you'll get to the more detailed one that you can sign up to receive each Friday. Hope this helps. It really is very informative about all things in the book world
