Scary HALLOWEEN Books?

I want to try reading a real scary book but have no idea what to look for - it seems like a couple of years ago people had listed some older books that were really good for Halloween reading. Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

How about “IT” by Stephen King. I didn’t read it but the movie looks really creepy.

"Salems Lot" by Stephen King was very scary to me. You might like it.

Ghost Story by Peter Straub - one of the scariest I've ever read. The movie's good too.

And I agree about Salem's Lot - one of my very fave Stephen King Books.

Susan Hill's Woman in Black is exceptional!

The Rats, by James Herbert.

It is creepy. It is horrible. It's a little dated, but massive fun. This was Herbert's first book, and he has a ton of fun horror reads. He's one of the best in the horror field.

A great thriller is Mary Higgins Clark's "LOVES MUSIC, LOVES TO DANCE." It's a bit dated, but oh so scary!

The most scared I ever got reading a book was Pet Cemetery by Stephen King. Made the mistake of reading it at night when I was home alone...had to keep getting up and looking out the window lol!!!!
