Do you read like this?

I read several different genres - cozies, historical fiction, thrillers, nonfiction, mysteries, memoirs, sci - fi ,fantasy, time travel, etc. I sometimes find myself being interested in certain genres in phases. Like I'll read historical fiction books for a month or so and then switch to sci - fi or thrillers. When I'm going through a certain "phase" only one genre will interest me. Then it passes and I switch to a different genre. Does this happen with anyone else?

Years ago, I enjoyed those gothic romances. I'm not even sure they are still being written. There wasn't much romance, but usually a maid or nanny found herself trapped in a gothic mansion. How dumb is that? That's one genre I'd never go back to.

I go through phases. Currently I am into the post-apocalyptic novels. Hmmm,....I wonder why 🤔

@AuntGMe too! I used to love those books! I think from there I went on to spy books. I loved John Le Carre, Ken Follett, Robert Ludlum, and many others. Now my attention span isn't what it used to be and I mainly read cosy mysteries.

I read by author, although that's pretty much by genre I guess. I've collected every book from three of my authors and love re-reading them over and over. I find something new each time and because of the number of books they've written, my re-reading any of them takes enough time to make them fresh again. My three favorites are John Grisham, John Sandford (Prey series) and Sue Graffton .

I still love reading 17th and 18th century romance novels, Like "Pride and Prejudice", and "Sense and Sensibility". I got on a kick several years ago and read one a week!

Yes, I do the same! One phase will be historical fiction, then on to another genre. Lately I have read a lot of Amish fiction. A co-worker passes her books on to me - that's how I tried Amish books. Mysteries get time with me too. Variety is the spice of life!!

I always enjoyed reading historical fiction with some romance thrown in it. Books like North and South by John Jakes. He was a prolific writer. He always added some romance. However, when you read one of his books you came away having learned something about history.

I remember watching a series on TV that was based on John Jakes' novels. I loved it! Patrick Swayze was one of the main characters. That's going way back....

My tastes in reading have changed over the course of my life. Like many of you, I used to love romances with the governess or nanny (Victoria Holt). Then I was into medical mysteries, then espionage and thrillers, and science fiction (Divergent, Hunger Games).Now I am loving historical fiction (Outlander, Discovery of Witches). I am not into true science fiction (Asimov), but pretty much anything else, I could enjoy.

I'm a mystery lover, so I tend to go by author. My faves are John Grisham, Sue Grafton, Janet Evanovich and Nancy Martin .... and have read most, if not all of their books.

My current new author is Sandra Brown and I'm currently reading the 6th book she's written .... thank goodness she's written about 60 books! Brown is really a very skilled writer if you're a lover of "Who Done Its".

@Caligurll I'm a cozy (or cosy) fan also. Right now I'm planning to read all 29 bed and breakfast mysteries by Mary Daheim in order.

I have been reading cozy mysteries for several years now. I love them and have several favorite authors that do series. I also read some romance along the way. Every now and then I wil read a biography. I have read all the books on Julia Child and really enjoyed them. Overall though the cozy mysteries are what I read on a daily basis.

That's exactly how I read. Sometimes after an intense book I'll jump to a cozy to lighten my mood. If I start a new author I tend to read the whole series, or several of their books before moving on.
