Because that's his job. He's doing what the producers ask. Reality shows like Survivor and The Bachelor are about manipulation at their very core. There is nothing real about them.

Well,I think Jeff IS the producer and he never did that until a few seasons ago. I've watched from the start.

The tribal councils supposedly go on for a long, long time and Jeff reportedly goes through each person there talking about why they should stay or go and then it's edited down after the vote to make it the most relevant to what actually happened.

As others have said, reality shows are often manipulated by the producers to get the results they want. That's what I like about Big Brother, with the live feeds we can see the manipulation. We can hear the houseguests talking about what production is trying to do. It's kind of neat to see. On shows like The Amazing Race and Survivor that are taped in secrecy, the viewers have no idea what's really going on.

There have been Survivor contestants who've said they knew something was up when they'd suddenly start being followed by a camera crew wherever they went.after being largely ignored previously. Production on those shows can influence the outcome in multiple ways if they choose to do so. The job of the producers is to make the best show they can out of the players they have. If they have to influence the game a bit to get the desired outcome, well, it's got to be done.

Most of the reality shows are offically "entertainment programming" as opposed to "game shows" so they don't have to abide by the same rules as real game shows. That gives them the opening they need to manipulate the outcome for the desired result. They're as "real" as soap operas. The most "real" of the reality shows is arguably Big Brother and it's not the most real because they don't manipulate the outcome, but because we can see the manipulation. We know what they're doing.

Jeff is one of many producers and exec producers. Survivor has had over 250 producers from the year it started until today. Last season alone they had 51 producers, including Jeff. (All listed in IMDB.com.) They're in season 32 in only 15 years, so they always have to keep pushing.
