Rielle Hunter interview (John Edward's mistress)

She was just on Steve Harvey - seemed to be asking for forgiveness. I think she's just seeking more attention since all of this has gone by the wayside since Mrs. Edwards died. I think Steve Harvey was way too nice to her saying "everybody makes mistakes". This woman ruined a family. (She and Edwards apparently are no longer together as of last year. Big surprise!) Of course, John Edwards is just as guilty as she is.

I think what's interesting is that Edwards and Rielle denied they were still in a relationship. Now it looks like it continued on. I'm sure she shacked up in one of his properties here in NC. They deserve each other. I have a friend who saw Edwards in a restaurant recently and he was talking loudly about the case he had just won. Sounds like he needs attention. We call him an ambulance chaser here.

@GSPgirl - Oh, I'm sure she's benefitting from his wealth and that he has set her up for life. She said he knew she was going on the show - so he obviously doesn't care how his children feel about his mistakes.

I was flipping past and didn't realize who it was at first. After a few minutes of listening to her profess that they were "still in love" but not together, it struck me who she was.

Both of them need to go away and shut up about it.

@Witchy Woman -I don't think it was love at all - for her it was about getting national attention. Yes, I'm surprised anyone gives her any air time. Wish Steve Harvey would have been harder on her.

Rielle certainly wasn't right in the situation, but she hadn't taken any vows to anyone to be faithful.

I think your last sentence sums it up very nicely.

It isn't about forgiveness, people have the capacity to forgive just about anything. It's more disgust that these two would think and act upon what they want and only what they want not caring about the trail of broken hearts and young souls being tortured by what they did. That's the part that is so disgusting. Edwards ill wife being betrayed when she needed him the most..... and their own children seeing it all. And even Rielle's own child who will grow up without a full time Dad..... the whole thing is disgusting and they need to both go away and shut up about it..... yup.

Thank you, Pearley, that's exactly how I feel about it, regardless of who are the ones involved. I have friends that tell me that I am way off base with my thinking. Have always felt that way & always will.

@cancun08 I feel like you do, he's MORE guilty (if we are keeping score). If he was unhappy in his marriage, she should have gotten a divorce.

Why don't people get divorces anymore? They have affairs and/or try to have the spouse killed. What's wrong with society? It's gone nuts and getting worse.

Here we are discussing it and there she is on TV. I wish they'd fade away.....in fact...I'm going to pretend like I didn't see this and I haven't posted here and don't give a rats (fanny) what they do.

He should have got a divorce if he wasn't happy in the marriage because he didn't do Elizabeth any favors by staying IN it.

While I understand all opinions, FWIW anyway, I would consider each of the two of them EQUALLY culpable.

On one hand he had a marriage contract. OTOH, she should have known that you just do NOT skrew somebody else's husband. That speaks just as abominably to her, IMO, as it does to him stepping out on his wife.

IMO the only innocent people in this sordid affair are the children. The 3 adults had their own agendas. Years ago (maybe 2002 or 3) we attended a political fundraiser, John Edwards was the big name. My husband was active in our local party and helped organize the event. Mrs. Edwards was beyond demanding and rude. She was heard screaming (from the adjacent conference room) at her husband before he gave his speech.

No one deserves to be cheated on. I read she wanted to be First Lady more than he wanted to be President. Divorce was not part of that picture.

Why the mistress is going public again, who knows. Why would anyone care what she has to say? Instead of doing the talk show circuit, she needs to slip quietly into the night and shield that poor child from the tabloids.

IMO the one who took the marraige vows is always more culpable than the unmarried woman. She isn't "cheating" on anyone because she didn't pledge fidelity to anyone. Not to excuse or condone her bahavior in any way, but she didn't promise anyone anything. And in more cases than not - again IMO - the husband has been telling her lies, such as he doesn't sleep with his wife any more, he wants to leave his wife, his wife is frigid blah blah blah.

ITA. This situation happened with my DH's former boss. He was a married man with children, and had an affair with a young woman in the office. When all was revealed and his boss was fired, I told DH I blame him more than the young woman because he stood up in front of God and all and promised to be faithful. I think the unmarried party also bears responsibilty, but somewhat less.

Look! When it comes to cheaters and divorces, I've seen it all. Two of my sisters have been married and divorced 2 times, 1 sister 3 times (she died or it might have been more), my mother was married 1 X to my Dad, 2 X's to my sister's Dad, 3 X's to my Dad's best friend. I've seen it and heard everything you can imagine.

It is my opinion that the person married is a few points more guilty than the unmarried cheater. Usually the married person has children, that alone makes them trash in my opinion. Children are the one's who end up getting dumped on (down from having to chose everything (i.e. Dad's house at Christmas, etc) to their financial situation takes a major hit when people get divorced, it's terrible.

I think if you took a poll (not always) but many times the unmarried one doesn't know the person is married or is told the marriage is over. Doesn't make it right, just saying. Usually, the unmarried thinks they'll be the 'one'.

Again, it's the children who end up getting hurt the worst. To say it is one or the other's fault doesn't make a lot of sense because they are both responsible for ruining the children's lives. Adults get over things. Divorce becomes a part of that child's life FOREVER! It will affect everything they do in their lives. See what I mean?

I can understand the unmarried one not being 'as' guilty as the married one IF, and only if, they didn't know the other was married.

In this case, clearly, she knew he was married. She is every bit as guilty and egregious a person as he, in their affair. It's just one of those unwritten rules of basic, very very basic, morality that you don't mess around with somebody else's husband.

For me, BTW, this isn't one iota about who either of THESE people are. This is just a general - if she knew he was married, she is every bit as bad a person as the married person with whom she is having an affair.

@chickenbutt I still don't understand why you think the unmarried person is as morally wrong as the person who made vows to someone. The unmarried person didn't. Nobody is saying that the unmarried person is acting admirably, nor morally, just that making a promise to someone and breaking it is worse than never having made a promise.
