OK, so don't go attacking me. I have wondered about this for a long time. I genuinely want to know and understand this?

I think part of my not being able to understand why someone would click on a subject if they didn't want to know about the show is because I have such a large (some say 'unfiltered') mouth. Maybe that's why.

How can you discuss the show without talking about the episodes?

I don't mind knowing ahead because (I admit) I miss so many things it helps me know what to look for and understand the show.

I understand that some people would not want to know about a show ahead of time, but what can someone gain by reading about it here?

All of you have always been so gracious to me and forgiving me for blurting out spoilers and discussing the most recent episodes.

Please don't be angry and I'm not accusing anyone. I am trying to understand how you can discuss it without talking about the show?

Maybe we should put the word SPOILER in front of every title show and try (I do try to find the latest posts) to keep the discussion past and up to date on one thread title of the show.

I can understand how some people get upset if they don't want to know ahead of time what is going to happen when we've already seen a show and want to discuss it.

I think Downton Abby is unusual because some people probably have all of this upcoming year and have already seen it. Most shows aren't like that.

Please just take a minute so we can figure out how to keep this from happening. As I said, I know I'm more guilty that anyone here, I apologize.

Let's figure this out.

If the title or first line says spoilers and I haven't seen the show yet, I come back too. It's only the ones where I'm not given a "heads up" on that trips me up.

I don't mind knowing what's going to happen in the episode that I haven't watched yet. I don't usually read the thread until after I've watched the episode though. However, the Downton Abbey spoiler that was just posted was the show's finale. I read it and absolutely did not expect to read that. I was so glad that the moderators deleted it for everyone that hadn't already seen it. It was posted accidentally as the poster didn't realize she'd watched the finale. Even if Spoiler had been in the title of the thread, I would not have expected to read about the show's finale.

I do think posters should use the Spoiler feature.

If you want to talk about the most recent episodes, it's just as easy to indicate that in the thread title or include a SPOILER warning.

If I see a post titled "Does anyone watch Show X?" I'm going to guess that's about the show in general and will click it if I watch the show. If the post is titled "Did anyone watch Show X Last Night?" then I am going to guess it's about what happened last night and won't click it if I didn't see the most recent episode. If someone says "Does Anyone Watch Show X - SPOILERS," I will also avoid clicking it if I haven't seen the most recent episode.

It's not that hard to let people know what you're posting about in the title - that's what titles are for. And for content, yes, you can use the spoiler icon and hide a specific sentence or many paragraphs. It's a great tool and pretty easy to use.

Hi Annabelle, et al!

Well, the basic rules that have existed across internetland on EVERY board I have ever belonged to, except this one, is that you have *SPOILERS* (or a version of that) in the THREAD TITLE if it's ok to post spoilery information in the thread.

If the thread title does not indicate spoilers the ONLY way spoilers should be posted in the thread is if they are spoiler tagged using the tool mentioned up-thread.

This is just a matter of common courtesy and very basic internet etiquette 101 manners. But then we have THIS board where people seem to turn their nose up at manners and, I'm sure in some cases, it's a matter of people who have never used the internet before. I've always noticed a lot of 'internet newbies' on this board.

But the rest of the problem is people who basically just say 'tough - I don't care and will post spoilers all I want or type in all caps/bolded (considered yelling) if I want and just too bad. You can't expect everybody to care about common courtesies I guess, which is a disappointment but what can ya do!

These days, with people being so busy and what with higher level technology, a lot of people record their shows to watch when they can. You should be able to visit a thread, even if you aren't caught up and as long as the thread title does not indicate that spoilers are ok, and be able to discuss a show without being hit with spoilers. Well, every place but here. Most boards will ban posters who post spoilers in a non-spoiler thread.

This is why I was so encouraged when they brought the spoiler-tagging tool to this board in June. I, ignorantly, figured that that would take care of the problem here. Clearly, I was wrong. I do most of my tv show conversing on other boards where the rules are observed because it's just easier, plus you can have more intellectual conversations about shows without threadcrappers coming along to post idiotic things like 'who cares' and such, which makes no sense because if one doesn't care, why even open the thread? But then, that's a whole other Jerry Springer show!

IMO there is a huge difference between posts discussing a current episode of a show...and a post that reveals what happens in the series finale.

Well, I'm all for having a post titled "SPOILERS" and one just where you discuss what? Here's the problem. People are at different stages in watching these shows (like someone said with DVR's) it varies on what they've seen.

So maybe someone might discuss yesterday's post and maybe others haven't seen it. How would you know if it was a spoiler if you post something say about Billy?

I belong to one commentary thread (this one). I don't twitter (although on a few TV shows I read what the stars post). I don't like that stuff for me personally.

I'm curious about this. How can you discuss a show without giving some people spoilers (assuming a spoiler is like today's show).

If I'm being honest I don't understand what anyone would gain from clicking on a post if they aren't up to date because all it is are a bunch of people talking about the show.

Here's another problem. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've gotten so frustrated trying to find posts already going (so as not to have many different posts on the same subject). Also, I like to read what other people post because it helps me see all sides of something (that's why I'm asking this question).

I'm not acting like a smarty pants, I genuinely don't understand how it can be discussed without people having what some call spoilers. There are very, very few surprises on most soaps these days. The only surprising soap here on this show (as I see it) would be "Billy sits up in bed, 'He's alive'". ) Ha!

Other than that Victria cries, Phyllis cries, so and so cries, Billy lays in bed and so on.

I guess I need to just leave it because I obviously can't figure out how to not post spoilers.

There must be a way to have all of us who want to talk about all of the show, do it, and people who don't want to know any of it post on their site.

It moves so fast, sometimes when you try to find the old posts, they just don't come up in the title.

I think everyone should have a right to see what they want when they want and not have their shows spoiled by people like me who can't tell the difference.

I do thought think it should be a totally separate thread and just because you do the spoiler thing doesn't work because who determines if it is a spoiler during a conversation. Am I just rambling? I think I am.

In the old forum it was easy to find old posts and go back and pick up on them. This one isn't as easy because they move off of the page. I show a lot of posts at one time (it fills the page) but not all show up.

OK, people who can figure this out, let's do it, rather tell me how (other than the spoiler thing) because I will just stop posting because I can't tell if something is a spoiler for someone because people are at different stages.

But I clicked on that spoiler tagline and it didn't say anything really, mostly two or so lines. They were big revelations. That's my point.

I think we all should really try to only post where it says spoilers. As for me, I will try really hard to keep track before I go off on one of my ramblings to make sure it says SPOILERS in the title.

I don't guarantee I won't make a mistake. I recently went on and on about what I thought was NEW GIRL and it was THAT GIRL. Someone graciously said, "Ummm....Annabelle, I think we're talking about two different shows". Out of everyone here, I think I am the most guilty of spoilers. That's why I'm trying to figure this out.

If someone doesn't want to know about a show they should be able to post something. Actually, I'm curious to see a group of postings where there isn't anything that could be construed as a spoiler. I just don't see how you can do it. People are at different stages (due to DVR) so one person's spoiler is another person's ......information maybe?

I understand Annabelle's frustration somewhat. Obviously, one shouldn't post spoilers for an entire series when only a few episodes have been shown in the main domestic market. But I've seen plenty of posts that I'm excited to see and want to participate, but they aren't marked spoiler. Not only that, the OP may say "no spoilers" and the rest of the discussion goes something like this:"I can't believe that happened!!" " I know! It was incredible!" "I can't believe they did that-can't wait for next week!" Seriously, what use is that?

I usually go to recap sites and Facebook to get other viewers ideas and theories. I will say it's nice when a post gets so old on this site that it does eventually dissolve into discussions of what happened on the last episode/spoilers (HTGAWM thread comes to mind.). Those are interesting to read.

I usually like the comments from the ladies on this board, which is why I come back here from time to time.
