Mary Tyler Moore Show

I love all the old sitcoms as they were actually funny and intelligently written. Not like the silly, childish shows they have on now. I just started watching the old Mary Tyler Moore show with "Lou Grant" and I forgot how hilarious they were. Stellar cast, excellent acting and writing. I am so loving watching this show all over again. Now up to season 5.

@lovesallanimals was my most favorite shows from the 70s and I watch it every morning on UpTV. I was going to post about it yesterday but didn't think anyone would be interested.

MTM was brilliant....and she influenced millions of us women as we were growing up (for the better). How many of us have felt the joy of tossing our berets up in the air in the middle of a city as we then start swirling around with a great big smile on our face? Haha! I may not have actually done this, but I know the feeling. MTM taught us that.

I remember reading about the theme song. The first season of the show the line was "You might just make it after all". Some show producers thought the line was somewhat negative so the following season the line was changed to "You are going to make it after all".

Did you all know that in Minn. there is a statue of Mary tossing her hat in the air, it stands right where that scene was filmed in 1970.

Funny, I sometimes watch the DVD Show on Me TV and Mary looks older on there than years later on her own show. I think thry made her look younger with longer hair in the early days of MTM and older with more sophisticated teased hair on DVD since she was a wife and a mother. Plus DVD was 11 years her senior.

As much as I love the characters, I remember laughing at Ted more than anyone!

I'm not familiar with UP TV, have to see if it's in my cable package. I loved, MTM and That Girl. Fun shows. Many years ago, I got several That Girl episodes from the library.

I have Prime on Amazon. They have so many terrific TV shows from "the old days". I must watch Prime a few times a week, more than Netflix.

DSD2 - OMG Ted is absolutely hilarious. Ted and Lou are my favorites. Also, Betty White was priceless and absolutely stunning.

yes'm great show. I started watching it a few weeks ago, and forgot how good it was. And OMG, the fashions! Really great clothes , some you could wear today easily.

One of my favorite scenes in any TV show is Sue Ann Nivens - Betty White - doing a high kick shutting the oven in a scene with Phyllis, think it had something to do with Lars.

A little bit of television trivia:

The older woman famously giving Mary a stern look was Hazel Frederick, a shopper who happened to pass by as the scene was filmed on location in downtown Minneapolis.

Many years later Mary actually met Hazel in 1996 during the book tour for her autobiography After All. Mary asked her about the "look" and Hazel said she was concerned. Mary was in the road with live traffic: "I thought you were going to kill yourself out there!"

Mary even had Hazel sign copies of the book, as she had become a sort of celebrity, Mary telling the crowd that Hazel was "her costar."

Hazel passed away in 1999 at the age of 91 with a small but memorable spot in television history.

Thanks for that information. Every time I watch the introduction I wonder about that lady. But also wonder why they didn't edit her out of the scene. Since she didn't seem to reflect Mary's going around enjoying the city.
