Sad....he was a really good actor. His work in Roots will always have a special place in film history.

He was such a good actor and so handsome too!

I will never forget watching Roots. At the time it seemed the enitre nation was watching it together.

Terrific role as Gordy Howard "The Weatherman" on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, his first big show!

Sadly, one of the last cast members from MTM, along with Joyce Bulifant.

About a week or so ago, I saw him and Florida on Maude. That was how Good Times got the spin off from James getting a raise and Florida was finally able to quit her job and be a stay at home Mom. It was so strange watching him on Two and Half Men being the life partner of Stacy Keach. They were cute together.
John was an excellent actor.

@beckyb1012 , yes I remember him on Two and a half men, that was so good.. I also remember that is how Good Times got started, forgot all about that........

What a talent ! I watched Good Times every week and loved the movie Roots. RIP John Amos and my sympathy goes out to his family.

Wow it seems like the deaths are coming one right after another! This year has been overwhelming with losses.

He was really good at every role I saw him in; loved him in Coming to America.

So sad he is gone now and we have lost so many celebrities from sports, TV, music, and more. Time goes by so quickly now.

Bit of trivia, John was actually at least 20 years younger than Esther Rolle, same for Isabel and Sherman, he was over 20 years younger too. They made both men look older by balding them a little in the front and making them a little grey too.

May all 4 of them have Good Times together , and rest in peace.

On Maude they named him Henry, then changed it to James on Good Times and moved the family from NY to Chicago.

I balled like a baby, it broke my heart when he left the show.
