The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on HULU

I had not heard of this show or anything about any of the ladies before I started watching this weekend. I am not on TikTok and had not heard of momtalk.

It is 8 episodes and I watched all this past weekend. It was rather addicting. It is another show where honestly I question my sanity for watching. I can't explain it. LOL.

All I can say is WOW. The ladies on this show make the ladies of the housewives shows look like saints. JMO. There is no physical fighting. I just had no idea about any of this and what goes on.

Read a mystery (fiction) and I believe it was called: "Sister Wife". Fascinating

Tried Googling but couldn't find it.

Haven't watched it - don't see the point. From what I've heard, it's total fiction. Meaning they just want their 15 minutes and will do/say what they need to to get it. Total sensationalism and not to be taken seriously in any way.

@Group 5 minus 1 I watch Sister wives, and have read other books on Polygomy and Mormons in general. This was different. The ladies are not in polygamous relationships.

I saw it advertised-looks interesting, one of the ladies is a cousin of Ben Affleck. I believe her name is actually Jennifer Affleck.

I beleive she said she has never even met him!

She's related to Ben Affleck by marriage to his cousin. So she's not a blood relative.

But when you're not living by the tenets of the faith, why even bring it up at all? Seems worse than those who don't use a religious affiliation or are at least honest about completely dismissing the standards. This just comes across as starved for attention and any attention will do.

I have Hulu so I might check it out. I have seen a movie about Mormons but that was long ago. Not sure how they live.

If it's a show like The Real Housewives shows I doubt I will watch it. I don't watch shows like that.

Check out Secrets of the Oligarch Wives streaming. Not sure if it's still streaming or not.

It showcases the women partners of the men who put President Vladimir Putin in charge as they risk everything by revealing the secrets of staying in his good graces and the price some have paid for speaking out.

@Citrine1 Oh yeah! I love trash TV- the trashier the better . I don't have Hulu, but I'd watch this show if I did have it.

The attitude of entertainment productions companies puzzles me. As a non-Mormon, I find the premise of shows like these unpalatable.

I'm not in the habit of taking offense on behalf of others, but even the title of this -- promising "salacious" secrets, etc. ( and after all, that's the history of these kinds of shows), seems demeaning to Mormons.

For an industry that is so conscious of pernicious "othering", I've noticed that they seem to love to single out Mormons, among other religious groups, for some reason, for their expose-type shows.

Funny-- one rarely sees any other minority religious group being breathlessly featured in the title of a sleazy reality show? Try to imagine some, and the uproar that would accompany such a move.

Would love to be wrong about this one, but the title seems to belie anything other than exploitative.

That and the stereotyping-- it's creepy to me. Didn't like the titling of another show of years' past, "Crazy Rich Asians" either. Coarse, and again, demeaning, in my opinion.

I used to watch "Housewife" type shows, for the drool factor over gorgeous houses, jewels, clothes. But, personally grew very disaffected when the purpose seemed to be to degrade people and show -- and to some extent, sanction-- the worst possible behavior. For that reason, I understand your ambivalence about it, @lenapecci .

I feel the same way about these type of shows and for the same reasons as you so well stated, @Oznell . I'm not Morman either but do notice when "entertainment" features them and others. And often Christians are made to look like the crazy, outrageous people they believe we are.

it sounded interesting. two of the wives were on THE VIEW today.

one of them is not in a polygamous relationship, but she and her husband are into "soft swinging."

Personally this series does not interest me--to each their own. I did enjoy "Under the Banner of Heaven" a few years ago on Hulu(?) dealing with the Mormon religion. A really good cast. I believe based on a true event (as much as any movie )
