Such a canny, talented actor, across the decades. Perfect role for him was the Dad in "Ordinary People". A very recognizable and resonant father that was-- affable, modest, but with submerged reserves of strength that came to the fore. RIP.

He was such a great actor! He had enormous "presence" in whatever film he was acting in. He was one of the great ones!

One of my favorite actors for over 50 years.

One of my favorite movies that he made is Eye of the Needle.

His son is a wonderful actor too.

Very sad, I didn't think he was that old! Great actor, I loved him in Hunger Games and I also love his son Keifer. Sad for their family

So sad to hear this. Another wonder actor that I have enjoyed watching through the years is now gone. It is a fact of aging that our world changes and we "lose" those who entertained us when we were younger and enjoying tv series, movies, concerts and other shows. I appreciated Donald's skills and versatility and found him so watchable.

He was such a great talent...so versatile and played so many completely different roles over the years....truly a gifted actor. I loved everything I saw him in, but especially loved his role in MASH. He never allowed himself to by type-cast. RIP Donald Sutherland.

I saw that movie at the theater in 1970 and had a life-long crush on Donald Sutherland after that.

To me, he was always attractive and wonderfully quirky.

I also loved him as Keira Knightley's father in her version of Pride and Prejudice.
