We Were The Lucky Ones

This is an eight part series on HULU with three episodes available, it stars Joey King and Logan Lerman. It is based on facts and is a sad and tragic story. "A Jewish family separated at the start of World War II is determined to survive and reunite". I watched all three episodes today, it is excellent.

Signed for a 30 free trial at HULU just so I can watch this show. The book was excellent and I'm hoping the series is true to the book.

@chlema wow HULU offers a free 30 day trial offer, most other streaming platforms offer a week. A month gives you a chance to watch a lot.

@Jordan2 I totally agree, So good, Such suffering by these poor people. Unthinkable. I was ready to binge watch abd then it stopped at episode 3. I guess next episode is The 4th.

Is anyone still watching, I am? To say I'm enjoying this would be the wrong terminology, it is something I must watch. You would think how are they the lucky ones living through the horrors they did, but they were survivors when so many people didn't survive.

I watched part of the first episode and it was obvious that it was going to be sad and tragic and I had to turn it off; just can't bear seeing that kind of thing any more.

I remember once asking my aunt didn’t you know what was going on over there and she said”they didn’t tell us anything “
I just finished the book and just to think what all those people went through. At times my eyes would well up -even though I knew about the Holocaust.

What I find sad is that the author of the book (Addy's granddaughter) didn't even know she had Jewish relatives. Once he got to Brazil, he abandoned it and married out of the faith and raised non=Jewish children.

What is happening today bears similarity to those times, so I hope the author can have a sense of what they really felt.

Saying that, the book and the show are very moving.

I just finished reading some related material. I was reminded that the Soviets were (in the beginning) Nazi sympathisers but later after Germany attacked Russia the Soviets joined the allies.

Aparently the alignment with Hitler was to gain territory in Poland and others.

The Little Liar by Mitch Albom tell about a young Jewish lad that survived by hiding his Jewishness.

The Escape Artist by Freedland tells the story about the man who broke out of Auschwitz to warn the world. He and his bud warned many important leaders only to be dismissed. They evern warned common Jewish people. Only about a third of the book covers the camp experience. He begged leaders to listen but they did not.
