What an illustrious career he had, crowned by Best Supporting Actor Oscar for "An Officer and a Gentleman", among many other awards.

He was part of the terrific cast of Lorraine Hansberry's landmark play "A Raisin in the Sun", both on Broadway and the film version, along with two other greats, the radiant young Ruby Dee, and Sidney Poitier.

Hollywood has indeed lost a treasure!💖💝 He gave a POWERFUL performance as Fiddler with such a beautiful spirit in Roots! His portrayal of SGT. FOLEY was riveting in An Officer and a Gentleman, and he RIGHTLY deserved the Oscar for best supporting actor he received in that role! ❤ I just cannot think of that movie and not think of his esteemed accomplishment !💝💝 I am sending heartfelt prayers of solace to all who knew and loved him.🙏🙏 He will be missed.❤

May his beloved soul rest in peace💝💝

No one will ever forget this Officer !! I see him on a few episodes of Good Times, one as Florida's brother, one as an older man in Thelmas life.

I forgot about him appearing on those episodes lol. I remember him appearing in one on The Jefferson's when he played George's best friend, but kept flirting with Louise. It was one of my favorites.💝🌸

I had my picture taken with him at a conference a few years ago. He was in a wheelchair and was very nice to everyone there.

He was a true talent and such an accomplished, admired actor.

His performances were always stellar and memorable. I will never forget him calling Richard Gere "Mayonnaise" in an Officer and a Gentleman.
