Amazon Prime Video Will Now Have Advertisements

Just received an email from Amazon that states limited advertisements will now be included with Prime Video. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since other streaming services are doing this.

Dear Prime member,

We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting January 29, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month* that you can sign up for it here.

*Live event content such as sports, and content offered through Amazon Freevee will continue to include advertising

They are trying to control costs. I won't fault them for that. We'll probably take that ad free option.

@lmt I'm kind of torn on this as it seems like all the regular networks have ads now as does Prime Video's Thursday night football nights so right now I'll kind of play it by ear - but maybe I'll change my mind, we'll see.

I just paid $2.99 a month to avoid it. I'm not happy but I don't want commercials.

There are so few shows or movies I watch on Prime these days, I won't pay $2.99 extra a month.

I already pay a high Xfinity Cable bill plus Hulu and Paramount+. I'll deal with the Amazon ads. There's not a lot of content for me to want to pay $2.99 a month extra.

After watching "The Night Agent" on Netflix I believe I will just watch theirs. Amazon Prime has never produced anything that good.

Also Netflix produced The Crown.

There are ads, and there are ads. Some are largely inconspicuous and not much of a problem. Others are a real nuisance. I'll wait and see how they implement it before making a decision on what to do.

You nailed it. That's my complaint about Prime. The shows are not that great. Neflix continues to bring innovative shows.

I'll keep Prime as a I love their service, but won't even bother with the shows. I keep hoping they will get better though.

I like Reacher and Jack Ryan on Prime, but not much else. I do hear Netflix is pretty good. 👍🏻

I get Netflix and Pecock free with my Xfinity cable, that is more than enough for me. I dont have Prime, not a big amazon shopper.

I'm not happy about it, but not surprised either. We'll wait and see how intrusive the ads are vs. how much I actually watch on Prime. Then I'll decide whether to pay the extra $2.99.

I hate ads, but I won't be paying the extra charge to go ad free. I don't watch that much on Amazon Prime anyway. I'll make sure to watch the few shows/movies on my watchlist before the end of January.

The ads on Paramount+ aren't too bad. I like that they have a little countdown indicator that starts up when the ad begins to let you know how long it will be. I think the longest ad is 180 seconds/3 minutes. That's not too bad considering how long regular TV commercials are.

I'm not sure that I'm going to continue with our Prime membership. It seems all the programming I want to watch is available to rent or buy. So much of the included programming I've already seen or don't care to watch. I added an Acorn TV plan to the Prime Video plan, and it seems we've watched just about all that we want to see from it too. One reason I got Prime was for the free shipping, but it's at the point deliveries are coming about a week after the order date. I'm thinking we're not using it enough to warrant the membership.

I rarely watch anything on Prime Video, I watch more Netflix. If there is something to watch I will deal with the ads as they get enough of my money I am not going to pay another $3.

Ads are everywhere. You can't read day old news with out have to take off your ad blocker. YouTube is filled to the hilt with ads. I rarely watch it anymore. CNN I can get, though they have ads. Fox won''t open if you don't have ads. My ad blocker is pretty good on the computer. Doen't work too well on phones or Tablets. I purchased an ad free tablet, but the little networks like Pluto, etc. has adds. I don't have many apps on my phone because of the ads. I got rid of YouTube, Twitter, etc on my phone. At least on the computer, you read something without facing pop up ads.
