Came back to say I wasn't overly impressed. It was too childish with the Candyland theme running throughout. I did like rooms with red, green and gold decorations. The volunteers always do a spectacular job!

@Marp ... thank you for reminder. I did watch the program. I am fascinated with the White House history, families and the Christmas decorating. I would love to be part of the volunteer group. I liked some of the decorations this year and some..not so much...but, children visiting would find it magical and exciting. It is amazing how they pull it all together in a few days.

I watch every year, 300 volunteers to do all this in 3 days, that was an accomplishment

I try to catch the show every year, regardless. Almost skipped it this year when I saw the Scott brothers were hosting. Have never cared for them. The decorations were a bit over the top with kiddie-candy-toy themes. Personally, it's the White House, I'd prefer a bit more sophistication and a bit less FAO Schwarz.

I got the impression that Jill Biden wanted to make it a lot more about the kids this year.

If anyone is able to visit the White House at Christmas, you will love it. It is breathtaking to walk around the rooms that are so festive. The "volunteers" do such a beautiful job. I may try doing that one year.

I have been several times and it never ceases to amaze how beautiful it is at Christmas and such a thrill to stand in the Peoples' House.

@Estellee I agree wholeheartedly!

Though they may not be the elegant and more formal decorations, I like them. As a retired 30-year teacher of lower elementary students, the theme resonated with me. So much sadness happening all around, why not make a visit to the White House at Christmas a magical experience for a child...or a 'child at heart"! Just sharing my thoughts!

All persepctives are valid. Given the White House is large and serves all sorts of functions and persons of all ages and aesthetics, I guess mine is that an area or two would have sufficed to create child-like magic. I'm not sure virtually the entire place had to be turned into Candy Land.

There are several rooms and corridors that are decorated traditionally. The East Room, Green Room and Red Room are just a few examples. Very clear from the pictures, that candyland is not the theme. I do love the library, with the brass bed display. A perfect scene to imagine yourself relaxing with a wonderful book.

The people's house is beautiful done for Christmas every year. This year is no different.

I believe they invite military families and wanted some decorations that appeal to children.

Sophisticated decorations and other things from the past would not appeal to children.

I agree, and Christmas is the time for rediscovering your child at heart self and the experience of holidays as a child. Feeling simplicity and that everything doesn't have to be perfect.

Some people lose that when the cynicism takes over as adults.

I watched and recorded the White House Christmas program and just finished watching it again.

As with the first time the same question kept popping into my head. They said there were 300+ volunteers doing the decorating. How many volunteers return for clean up when it is time to take the decorations down?

I think it’s both fun and beautiful. I love the foyer with the white tree, lights and Santa’s sleigh overhead. Also love the library.
