"The Federalist". C-SPAN Monday September 25 @9:00 p.m. Eastern

This episode will continue a look at important ideas that shaped America, by examining "The Federalist Papers", a series of 1788 essays by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and John Jay.

(The episode is titled "The Federalist", the name by which the Federalist Papers were known before the 20th century.)

Under the pen name "Publius", Hamilton, Madison and Jay argue for the ratification of the newly created Constitution.

At C-SPAN online, at the "Books That Shaped America" site, there are fun little add-ons, like a filmed walking tour of Alexander Hamilton's New York, including an ancient tavern where many of the ideas and issues of early America were hammered out by "we the people".

I finally got around to listening to my recording of this, only to fall asleep, unfortunately (no reflection on the content.). It was in the wee hours, after all...

But, what I did hear didn't quite have the immediacy of episode # 1, on Thomas Paine's "Common Sense". I felt that the interviewees were talking "around" the Federalist Papers, more than they were delving deeply into them. But that might be an injustice, since I didn't watch the whole of it. As usual though, C-SPAN's Peter Slen (I think it's 'Slen'?) was a perfect host.

If anyone did brave the whole thing, would love to hear any reactions you may have had.

Can't wait for episodes upcoming, that have American greats Lewis and Clark, Frederick Douglass, Willa Cather!
