Hugh Jackman and Wife Deborah divorcing after 27 years of Marriage!

Wow! That does surprise me, not many break ups do, but theirs does.....I know they don't live in Hollywood, so that probably was very smart...27 years is a long time for most in show business...He seems like such a nice person...Hopefully it is amicable!

Now, that's a surprise break-up!

I thought they lived in Australia, but I guess they must have a home in the U.S., as well.

I don't think living in "Hollywood" is the problem for most actors. The problem is that being in any job in the entertainment industry is a very complicated life. NOT a nine to five job, and careers can take you away from home for 3 to 6 months at a time.

How do you keep a relationship going with long-ish trips as the norm? Even if spouses aren't caring for small children, they don't want to spend that 3 to 6 months in a hotel room, killing time until the movie shoot is over. Accompanying an actor spouse gets old real fast.

That's very sad. I liked them as a couple and the fact he married an "older" woman. He is 54 and she is 67.

This news has no "element of surprise" to me upon hearing as it has been speculated for MANY years that Hugh Jackman is either gay or bisexual and his wife was his 'beard'.
Again, just rumored like so many other high profile male celebrities.

This is not to say this is the reason for the divorce, who knows.
I DO hope that it is handled amicably and the children are treated with extra care.

No such thing as privacy anymore. I guess that is both a pro and a con. After 27 years of marriage....I'm always sad that the couple doesn't work on getting it together. If it is a reason like s..ual preference then it is too bad that they stayed together for so long...neither would be experiencing a happy partnership.

The couple say in a statement exclusively shared with PEOPLE: "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth."

"Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."

The statement, signed “Deb and Hugh Jackman," concludes: "This is the sole statement either of us will make."

The Aussie pair, who share two kids, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, have been married for 27 years.

It's always sad when a marriage ends, but more so when it is one of many years duration. And even though their children are grown, fracturing a family is painful and difficult no matter when it occurs.

I don't know the reason or circumstance but I wish them and their family well.

Divorce doesn't always "fracture" the family.

Sometimes it's a huge improvement ... and a huge relief to everyone.

He seems like such a nice person. I was surprised to read this. I've never heard any rumors around him being gay. Even so, it doesn't change my opinion of him - a wonderful actor and nice guy.

@Tinkrbl44 ...Why is that?...His wife was 40 when they married and us women know that pregnancy can be risky after a certain age...Did you know that his wife went through a miscarriage and they tried IVF, and they then decided to definitely adopt?

Many couples who are unable to have children together choose adoption.

Non-celebrity marriages end all the time. 27 years is a long time.

I admit I don’t like the assumption sometimes made that it’s always the guy’s “fault”.

It’s unfortunate that they are divorcing, but 27 years together is a successful marriage by any measure.

If they are able to maintain an amicable separation, that says a lot about both of them.

The gay rumors began when he did The Boy From Oz musical based on Peter Allen's life. At the time, Hugh Jackson basically said, "cue the gay rumors to begin." And he was right. In his time, there would be no reason for covering your true identity, the way Peter Allen did by marrying Liza Minelli. It certainly hasn't ruined Neil Patrick Harris's career or any of the other openly gay artists. I believe that Hugh Jackman is real enough that he would have had a public conversation about his sexual identity long ago.

Exactly. She's nearly 70. Maybe she wants to embark on a new lifestyle, explore spirituality and live for a year in Papua New Guinea and he's not interested in any of it. They have the means to go their separate ways without interrupting their standard of living.
