TCM - Summer Under the Stars

A good line up this year. Especially Deborah Kerr and the seldom aired Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison on Saturday, August 12 at 8 PM EDT. Haven't seen that one in decades and will not miss it.

@kaydee50 Yes, I checked out the schedule last night.

Now I have to set the timer. I also am going to write a schedule of some of my favorites too. Doesn't matter how many times I have seen some movies, I enjoy watching them again.

Glad they picked quite a nice variety of stars, leading off with Lucille Ball. Wish they were showing "Miss Grant Takes Richmond".

I am looking forward to watching some old favorites and a few new ones that I never saw before.

Heaven Knows Mr. Allison hasn't been on TCM since 2014!

Rhonda Fleming, a SUTS premiere, would be 100 on her day, August 10th.

As far as I know it hasn't been on ANY TV station in a long time. And Kerr and Mitchum were great. Also showing The Sundowners which is shown fairly regularly.

Thank you for the schedule. Looking forward to Psycho tonight, and Vincent Price day. I very much enjoyed Lucy and Ricky's The Long, Long Trailer last night.

I'm so glad they are celebrating more diverse and overlooked stars this year. I wish this post could be pinned for August.

@Oznell, was so glad that you mentioned Robert Ryan. I immediately checked to see if 'Billy Budd' would be playing, & it is, on Monday, Aug. 7th.

Yay!

As a child of 7 or 8, that movie made a HUGE impression on me when our family saw it at the drive-in theater.

Afterwards, recognizing my fascination/obsession, my mom bought me the book, and I struggled to read Melville's heavy writing.

It was tough going, if not impossible, & really gave me an appreciation for Peter Ustinov's screenplay!

He was brilliant.

Years later, when I was 19 or 20, I got home in the early morning hours to my apartment in San Francisco after what still remains the most magical night of my life.

I turned on the black & white TV, & then from the other room, heard music playing from a movie that was starting.

I stopped dead in my tracks, & flew into the room. I knew it instantly!

Billy Budd!

To be able to see it again capped off that wonderful night.

Since these days you can watch anything, anywhere & whenever you'd like, I feel sorry for folks who don't know the thrill of being able to catch a favorite movie on TV.

Love your story, @sabatini ! What an amazing, sensitive little child you were at 7 or 8!! To be so drawn to Melville! And then, much later, to have the film come on after such an important night of your life, perfect.

You have shared a fascinating aspect of your personality, and shown how films, even complex ones based on great literature, can have an absolutely profound effect on developing minds.

"Phaedra" was just on. That is one of the best movies ever made. It's rarely shown on TV and very hard to find online. Anthony Perkins, Melina Mercouri, and Raf Vallone were excellent. Mikos Theodorakis's music made this movie unforgettable.

I wish they would show "Play It As It Lays" and "Pretty Poison". Both movies also star Tuesday Weld.

I don't care how many times Psycho is on, I will watch it. I can't believe Tony Perkins wasn't even nominated for an Academy Award for this movie.

There's something about the cinemetography, and his acting perhaps - even in the darkest scenes, even with his deepset eyes, you can see glimpses of the whites of his eyes and it's so chilling! Positively amazing performance.

I was thinking the same thing and agree 100%! He made a lot of movies in the late '40s and 50's. Certainly deserves a day of his own.

Raymond Burr was in another film noir movie "Pitfall" (1948) and it was really a good one! The cast included Richard Powell, Lizabeth Scott and Jane Wyman. Raymond Burr played a really creepy private investigator who worked with Richard Powell, who was an insurance investigator. The plot involves Lizabeth Scott who is involved in an insurance fraud investigation. It is worth watching! Richard Powell was married to June Allyson and Joan Blondell...that Richard! They would not let me go by his star name.....edited to add this clarification......
Mr. Burr really could play the sleazy parts! To this day I still enjoy the "Perry Mason" series, no matter what year!

I agree, they need to give Mr. Burr a day of his own with Season Under The Stars!
