What do you think of the new cast in the latest Father Brown series? I personally don't think it's the same without Mrs. McCarthy. 😩😞

For me, that is a huge plus. Delighted that it doesn't have that odious woman or the cartoonish Inspector Mallory.

when did the new season start? i seem to still be looking at repeats. why did Mrs. Mccarthy leave?

I think long running series have to make changes to stay current and fresh. I think the Mrs McCarthy character was boring, predictable, routine. The character ran it's course. But I don't particularly care for the young housekeeper and the parish secretary. Yes, they can get into mischief and mayhem with Father Brown. They add a comic element but don't anything to the show. Maybe I'll feel differently when I get accustomed to them.

The character I miss is Bunty. Was that her name? She's been gone for a couple of seasons now.

I'm warming up to Mrs. Divine but don't really care for the cleaning lady, sorry don't remember her name.

I will continue to watch the new episodes since I enjoy the on location scenery.

The new cast is unwatchable. I have adjusted to the changes over the years, but the two ladies and different plot directions with them are bringing down the show. I doubt more seasons are ahead if this group and present trends continue. What were they thinking?

I like Father Brown but its taking some getting use to the new cast. Change in a favorite show is always hard.

@Babyfran I'm still getting used to the new cast members but still am liking the show as I think as long as Father Brown stays the same that's what's important. I think I read that the different actors had other acting commitments which unfortunately met they couldn't continue doing Father Brown at the same time.

Something a little different but I was watching DI Ray the other night & noticed the actress who plays Trixie on Call the Midwife was one of the cast.

I'm undecided. I liked Mrs. M and I liked Bunty. Don't miss the inspector, who had become a caricature. I do miss Bunty most. When the new maid was introduced I thought I would like her, as the sort of 'heart of gold' type, but since then they seem to be wiritng her as surly and sort of grumpy. The secretary, so far, is a non-starter for me. I also like Lady Felicia but more as an occasional 'guest' than a regular. It appears they might be relying on guest stars to fill some of the void left by Mrs. M and Bunty. I was surprised to see Elaine Paige recently on the show.

Not to horn in on the conversation, but I wanted to mention that I tried watching Sister Boniface and found it lacking.

While she is pleasant enough, the supporting cast has not sparked any interest. We watched three episodes and I couldn't get invested.

Switched over to the Queens of Mystery series, which is more to my liking. Nancy Carroll (Lady Felicia) is in this series. However, Sid hasn't shown up in anything else that I've watched.

I did thoroughly enjoy Father Brown, but haven't viewed the last season since we get the discs from the library and the new season is still airing.

Not sure I want to watch it with so many changes.

Oh no, I didn't know Mrs. McCarthy left. Apparently, the actress (Sorcha Cusack) had other projects she was working on so Father Brown had to go. At least we still have Mark Williams (Father Brown),

I don't like the new cast at all. Will continue to watch as I like the show/scenery and Mark Williams. The new cast members don't fit the show and don't like their characters. Makes it hard to watch.

The new season started on my PBS station several weeks ago. There were a few new episodes, then the last couple of weeks have been reruns.

Mrs. McCarthy didn't come back for the new season.
